MEGA Esports announces the successful closing of its Series A round above the Company’s initial target
MEGA Esports Ltd announces the successful closing of its Series A financing round led by affiliates of Virtus Capital Ltd, Sustainergy Capital Ltd, and several other private investors above its intended target. MEGA ESports is a Hong Kong based corporation that is focused on the growing eSports industry in Southeast Asia. The Company’s mission is to become the region’s premier eSports platform with an initial focus on the development and support of world-class teams in various game franchises in order to highlight the growing popularity of eSports and the gaming talent that has developed throughout Southeast Asia.
eSports fanbase worldwide totaled 256 million people in 2016, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for approximately 44% of the total. Southeast Asia represents the fastest growing segment of the Asia-Pacific region, with 9.5 million enthusiasts in 2016 and an expected compounded annual growth rate of over 35% between 2015-2019. The initial round of financing will be used to build out MEGA Esports’ footprint and reach throughout the region. The Company intends to partner with select endemic sponsors to build the awareness and appeal of professional eSports through an institutionalized process of training and player development.
