RESPONDING TO THE RECENT ARTICLE FROM ARSTECHNICA:

Recently, an article appeared in Arstechnica and other publications which purported to suggest that a number of our HD cameras were insecure and hackable.

The company that conducted the research, F-Secure, did attempt to report these concerns but did not reach our Security R&D Team since, at the time, the researcher was unaware of the partnership we at Foscam had with our OEM partner. While they did report these concerns to the distributor and to a Finish research organization, we could find no report of these issues with our Feedback or Security Teams. Since the publishing of this article, we have reached out to the researcher and have learned of their research and the version of the firmware he had been using.

A vast majority of the issues reported have either been addressed in prior firmware releases or require someone to already have Administrator privileges on the camera already. And, with the feedback from F-Secure and their report, we have strengthened our firmware and have closed off these very negligible issues in our latest firmware.

Once we learned of these issues, our Security R&D Team and our Customer Service Team have been investigating these claims and have since concluded that the issues reported do not affect the vast majority of our users.

Foscam takes home security and personal security VERY SERIOUSLY and have staffed teams that are available 24/7/365 to address any and all issues on security.

To allay any concerns, we have released a patch for cameras that may not have been upgraded to the newest firmware - especially given our trusted partnerships with other brands. This firmware has been strengthened and covers many of the issues that may have existed in prior firmwares.

Thank you.
