Matchmaking Rank Matters, But it Doesn't.

Matchmaking ranks matter, but they don't. Let me try to break this down as clearly and concisely as I can.
Some people, especially at the lower tiers of CSGO, put way too much emphasis on matchmaking rank. The belief that an LE is generally better than a DMG is so ingrained into some people's heads it's quite sad. Well, actually, this concept may or may not be true. If you took 100 players stuck in DMG and put them in 1v1 battles with 100 players who are stuck at LE rank. The overall win percentage would probably favor the Legenderage Eagle player.

But it still doesn't matter.

In my mind, there are two different types of players

1. This player is either very new to the game, and/or has puts LOTS OF time into matchmaking/Deathmatch but that's about it, this player may put in effort into watching streams and learning from professional players. This is very good, however, the player will still not be able to succeed in an actual competitive environment simply because they don't have the experience/game knowledge to know how teams will react to certain plays being done in the game. The difference between pick up games and actually team oriented CS is so monumental I cannot put it into words. You just need to put the effort in to finding teammates who share your level of individual skill and have the same goals as you and practice against other teams. But until then, just focus on your own aim, decision making, and usage of grenades then everything else will flow naturally.

2. This player is well past the matchmaking stage. I'd say the cutoff point would be maybe a B- rank on esea or Open playoffs/IM, this bracket is very broad, it includes anyone from a mediocre Main player to Olofmeister. Obviously, I do not want to compare the two, my point is that - generally speaking - the players in this bracket do not give a single shit about Matchmaking rank, simply because they play on other platforms that are FAR more important to them. I'll be honest and say that I've been in this bracket for a VERY long time, hovering around the A/B ranks of ESEA. It's fine though, the one kid on Reddit who shits on me for "only being LE" means absolutely nothing to me. And this is the sort of mentality you need to have if you want to get better.

HOWEVER.

In the first bracket of players, Matchmaking rank definitely matters to an extent. The excuse that "I'm gold nova but my teammates are holding me back" is just something that doesn't fly with me. In order to get out of ELO hell in Matchmaking, you need to achieve a certain level of aim and individual skill to consistently carry your teammates. I feel like a lot of people don't understand this concept. The system is DESIGNED to give you weaker teammates to test your ability to kill the lesser skilled opponents on the other team. This is why a DMG is generally better than a gold nova 4 (in the first bracket) is it because they get "lucky with teammates" or "they queue with teammates" Nope. They probably have better crosshair placement/movement.
Don't let this discourage you, however, my first rank in CSGO, Silver Elite Master, and that's only because I put 2000 hours into cs1.6 before picking up CSGO.... Can you imagine how frustrating that would be? Getting such a low rank after 2000 hours of the previous game? But I kept pushing through. And you can do the same.
