#Westbury At 17.50 last night a freight train became derailed at East Somerset Junction between Westbury and Castle Cary. No injuries have been sustained but there is significant damage to track and equipment. The derailment is significant with the line currently blocked and likely to remain out of use for at least the next 48 hours.

Our Engineers are on site assessing the damage prior to commencing recovery operations to clear the line. We are working closely with GWR and South West Trains to put in place contingency plans including diverting London-West of England services via Bristol. Passengers are advised to Check Before You Travel as journey times between the West Country and London may be significantly extended. A further update will be issued later this morning.
