My 2017 Goals
So what are my plans for 2017 exactly? Well, after 2016 was kind of a mixed bag of good, bad, and unfortunate things, I feel like I'm being a bit ambitious with what I'm hoping to do in 2017 with Smash and Pokemon particularly. As anyone who follows me knows, Smash 4 and Pokemon are my the main two games I play on a competitive level, and there's definitely things I want to do for both of them in 2017.
I'll start with Smash 4. The Memphis Smash 4 scene is a really cool one and definitely a scene I'm happy to be some part of. Unfortunately, I haven't really been able to go to tournaments recently because holiday work schedules are always fun, but that doesn't mean I haven't been ignoring the game or the scene. With so many strong players on the come up on the local scene and the PR ranking, it's definitely going to be a challenge to do what I want to do in the scene, but I feel I can do it with the right amount of time and dedication. By June, I want to at least be back near HMs for the PR like I was a few months back or possibly even barely inside the top 20. As for the end of 2017? I want to be able to say I'm inside top 15 of PR and a significant threat to upset anyone I meet in bracket. I also want to be able to be a solid commentator for the scene that can also use my strong following here on Twitter from Smogon to give the scene more exposure. The latter stuff is something I know I can do with relative ease, so my primary focus will be on getting into and staying on PR because there's some really solid players on the local scene.
For Pokemon, there's two ideas I'm toying with on top of a few things I know I want to get back to. To start off with, some of you may remember that I used to be on the Smogon RU Council back in the XY metagame as well as early ORAS. Then I nearly gave Pokemon up overall to try and make something work irl. However, with that, er, thing I guess(?) being behind me, I want to get back to being on the RU Council for Sun and Moon and stay on it for the forseeable future. I know that'll take some hard work and dedication, but I've done it before. So I know I can do it again. I also used to be on the Twitter team for Smogon as well as an RU C&C (basically analysis stuff) Moderator and I'd like to get back to that again at some point this year if the opportunity arises. I also know I want to get RU exposed more as I feel it's the least-played of Smogon's official tiers. I technically started with this by doing the RU Discussion videos with Pokeaim, but doing RU stuff with him on a more consistent basis is something I definitely want to try to do. As for the two ideas, IV breeding / checking has been made so much easier in Sun and Moon that I'm toying with the idea of IV breeding for in-game stuff with occasional giveaways for my Twitter followers is something I'm definitely considering doing. The last is Smogon Tutoring. There was a time when I did do Battling 101 tutoring for RU, but I ended up giving that up because of my lack of free time. It's something I absolutely love doing as I enjoy helping others and having a hand in the RU analyses that end up on-site. Tutoring is something I definitely want to try and get back to doing, but that hinges more on if I have the time available to do it or not. I've rushed back into it twice only to not really have the time to do it, so I don't want that to happen again and let others down.
So yeah, I guess that's it. I guess you could call it my New Year's Resolution, but I moreso look at it as the goals that I want to meet this year. Hopefully I can meet all of them, but even meeting most of them would be really nice. Hope you guys have had an enjoyable 2016 and have an even better 2017.
