We are pleased to announce the call for papers for the forthcoming Advanced Studies Seminar entitled “The Montgomery Ruling: Impacts on Philosophy of Medicine and Bioethics”. The seminar will be 9 November 2016 at St Catherine’s College, Oxford. Anna Bergqvist (Manchester Metropolitan University), Rob Heywood (University of East Anglia), and Tim Thornton (University of Central Lancashire) will be joining us as invited speakers. The Montgomery ruling has up to this point been discussed largely only in relation to consent issues in medicine. We believe that the ruling also has important implications related to ignorance, expertise, as well as consent and many other areas of interest to philosophers and bioethicists. We are hoping to gather interested scholars to discuss the philosophical issues implicit in the relatively recent Montgomery ruling and to plan future collaborative work. Given this goal, innovative or non-traditional proposals will be preferred.
We welcome scholars and clinicians working in all aspects of philosophy of medicine or bioethics to submit proposals for consideration. The proposal must be no longer than 500 words, and submitted by 31 August. We are hoping to inform successful submissions by 15 September.
