Why I left SoaR

Hey I wanted to enlighten you all on the reason why I decided to leave SoaR gaming. Also I am normally quiet about team changes and drama, but I felt like this needed to be said. Also by no means am trying to make one or multiple people look bad I’m trying to show my side of the story and why I left. On that note this story will be biased to an extent due to the fact it is from my point of view.

Before I get into things I want to explain the dynamic of SoaR and who did what. The main shot caller was Hurriwind, Met and I did not talk very much, Jigz talked but wasn’t the shot caller and Baskin’s comms were dependent on if he wanted to try or not.

When the team was first created we all agreed that we would work with each other and work through problems instead of just replacing players. This would not last.

In the middle of the split we encountered a problem. Baskin and Hurriwind were not getting along. Hurriwind was completely willing to work on the disagreement he had with Baskin. Knowing this Bickum and I approached Baskin about getting him to work with Hurriwind. The problem was fixable and I saw no reason for them to not just work it out. However oddly enough Baskin had zero intention of working with Hurriwind and would rather just let it be.

Before DreamHack Baskin and I encountered a problem of our own. Baskin was not nearly trying as hard as he was in the beginning of the split and he was showing up late to scrims. I felt
like he was being overcritical and was deflecting blame onto Hurriwind and me. Like before, the problem was never worked on and it got to the point where my performance with Baskin around was suffering. It eventually grew to the point I was considering muting Baskin during scrims, but I never did so. I told the team that playing with Baskin was almost unbearable and we agreed to just ignore the problem until after Dreamhack for the team’s sake and to try to win Dreamhack.

During DreamHack we ignored the problem perfectly and managed to place 2nd at our first LAN.

The day after dreamhack Snoopy approached Baskin and asked if he could mid for us. Baskin told Jigz and then both Jigz and Baskin told me, but they said the decision would be mine for the most part because I was the jungler. I tell Baskin my problem with teaming with him, which was that he has to try ingame and work on his attitude. The only reason I told Baskin was because Jigz told me directly me to tell him.

Later the next day I messaged Jigz that my spot is in danger because of what I said to Baskin. If Baskin has a problem with anyone he won’t work the problem out, and he would rather just replace them and move on.

The day after Baskin gave an ultimatum saying he wouldn't play with both Hurriwind and I. I became extremely mad and vented because I knew this exact situation was going to happen and I forewarned people on the team that it would. The day after Hurriwind and I were planned to be kicked. Their reason to kick me was because I was trying to fix the problem that we agreed to ignore before DreamHack. Their thought was that I was the problem by continuously bringing up how to fix the problem with Baskin. What I found infuriating about the situation was that they valued one player over two. Not to mention the two were part of the core of the team who worked harder on the team and those two were never given a voice. For me specifically it made little to no sense why they would value Baskin over me as well because I believe I performed well at lan for my first performance, while Baskin did not have his best showing. My spot ended up being saved because my replacement didn’t want to join at the time, but at that point I didn’t want to be on that team.

In the end Hurriwind’s fate was inevitable because his poor performance at DreamHack served as a cover up and he was replaced by Snoopy, not to mention I did not have any say in the final decision when I was still on the team. Overall after all of this I left because I’ve seen how easily one could be replaced for no reason or for under performing and for seeing how the team atmosphere would never be fixed. In the end I am sad that this small problem has sprouted into an enormous problem to ruin a great team, but at the same time I am happy with my new team because of their positive attitudes and their drive to improve.

TLDR: I left soar because the team atmosphere was extremely poor and I was supposed to be kicked with Hurriwind.
