My opinion on game censorship outrage

In this world there are real cases of censorship, where freedom of speech and information is stripped from people; deliberately redesigned outfits for girls in a game done in a way that doesn't affect gameplay is hardy one of those.

It seems to be a trend for people to cry offense at anything these days (I like to say that 'being offended is the new bullying'). I don't know if people really consider everything.

Take fire emblem, Nintendo of America are publishing their own game, Fire Emblem Fates (not Fire Emblem If: English Edition). It's perfectly fine if a publisher wants to deliberately change content in the game they are publishing to make it a game that they want to sell, a game they few comfortable selling.

In some cases altering the ages and outfits of girls is what allows them to get the rating they need in order to market to the audience they intend to sell to in certain countries. If they can't do that, they can't commit to sales and without that you get no green light, aka no game. Don't assume because you're cool with it that you are their core consumer and you know more about how marketing the game works.

Point is, it's their game and they are the ones committing the effort and money to bring it to you. Also, when an another company sells publishing rights to another company they are saying that they are cool with what changes that will be made. If the creator is not offended...why are you?

Some debate that it's still a form of censorship; if you want to play word game, then every word I mistyped and went back to correct in this note was self censorship. It's a pointless debate.

If a creator really wanted to make something but were stripped of what they wanted to do, against their will, in a way that affected the message and intent of a product, then you have every reason to cry censorship but in modern games and the topics I see online, this is not the case.

Let's focus on the gameplay and save our censorship yellow cards for incidences that truly deserve the ridicule and outrage.

Peace.
