Alec "Tiptoe" Schmidt
The world and the gaming community lost a beautiful soul today with the untimely passing of Alec "Tiptoe" Schmidt. Alec was as caring, genuine a kid as you could ever hope to call a son, brother, and friend and the collective hearts of all those he touched mourn over his loss. There are a lot of kids, and a lot of gamers, but no one quite like Alec.
I had the pleasure of coaching and watching Alec grow over the past few years, and watching him become quite literally the face of Onslaught. Alec was an amazing person, as smart as he was curious; as innocent as he was mischievous; and as caring as he was competitive. Riding home today from work, I never, not in a trillion years would have guessed that the phone call I was about to make would end with the news that Alec was no longer with us.
There are a lot of tears being shed now, and rightfully so. Whether it was as a teammate, a competitor, or a friend Alec was always one to leave an impression, one of the first to offer to help. Today, I am at a loss that one of the most unselfish and thoughtful kids I have had the pleasure of knowing is gone too soon.
Alec is, and forever will be alive in our memories. We are better people today because of that. The pain from his death will numb over time, however searing the hollowness is now. Onslaught always has been about the bonds that bind us together - our shared passion for gaming, for competing, for striving to be the best. And I can say without hesitation that Alec Schmidt exemplified all of those traits, and forever will be missed by me, our family, and everyone who's live he touched.
Dealing with the death of a close friend is never easy, but you do not have to deal with things alone. For all of you who are close enough to call yourself family, my door is always open. 24/7, I am available for you all to talk, text or just listen silently on the phone to keep you from feeling alone. I love you all.
