30 April 2007. Second day of the Ocean Club creche. I'm putting myself in Gerry McCann's shoes as I did yesterday, trying to make sense of his hand-written entries in the attendance book. Shhhh! Here he comes. "Worrrrds cannot express the difficulties I experienced in falsif...........erm...... in completing the creche record today. Why didn't I have the common-sense to disguise my writing when entering the names of "Robert Naylor" and "Madeleine McCann" in the morning session? Was it arrogance? Nerves? I really don't know, but I started like this yesterday, so I shall have to go on. And you recall the mess I made of that other wee girl's first name yesterday? Jeez...I've done it again? Ahh, but what you may not realise is that I've actually been rather smart. I've written "Robert" - her father's name. Gives you the impression it was actually he who made the mistake in not writing the child's name in the appropriate column. Clever, don't you think? Except that the hand-writing gives the game away. Pity, that. As for the afternoon session - the less said, the better. Brat went AWOL, didn't show up until 15.15. Less than half-an-hour later, Kate had to take her out, kicking and screaming. (Kate more so than the child). Poor old O'Brien had to take his own nipper into creche at 16.00, so that he could apply his immense intellect (not) to sorting out the whole fecking mess. Someone fetch me a Johnnie Walker, will you?
