Th-Eng Trans: Full Interview with #BamBam - HAMBURGER MAGAZINE ❤

WHAT-EVER IT TAKES

HAM: We want to know BamBam more through your interests and likes. How about let’s start off with the color of your recent bed sheets?
BB: Mine is white with a blue striped pattern and it’s a single-size one. Aside from my pillow, I also have another light blue bolster. Actually, I like a kind of slippery texture; since I was young, I like to slide myself on my blanket while I was sleeping. When I’m alone, I use to rub it like this (rubbing) so that’s the reason why I’ll choose a slippery kind of blanket instead of the harsh one.

HAM: Do you choose these kind of stuff yourself or you just use anything from anyone who bought it for you?
BB: I’ll choose by myself. I normally choose things by myself and not listening to others much. Like, if I really like it and I feel happy whenever I use it then that thing is “The Best” for me.

HAM: Your roommate (Jackson Wang), does he ever comments on your bed sheets?
BB: Oh! Absolutely no! Because my bed is the nicest one in the room (laugh) other’s bed be like blue bed sheets, green blanket, red pillow, like anything they have is fine but doesn’t match much. But mine will come in sets, so I can be happy when I sleep (smile).

HAM: What about your latest pajamas that you wear this morning?
BB: I wear a sweat pant that I got it from the convenient store in Japan with a black top tank shirt. My pajamas normally are sweat suits because it’s comfortable or Thai-style pants that they sell it in the Northern part, I have every color of those kind of pants.

HAM: When thinking about BamBam, what do you think your roommate would think about you?
BB: Maybe when I turn on the music. Whenever I am in the room, I will turn on the music extremely loud. Whether I'm in the bathroom, during sleeping time, or just doing anything, I’ll turn on the music. Sometimes he get annoyed but I just don’t care (laughing). Whenever I turn on the music, it’s like creating a good atmosphere, that’s what I like about it.

HAM: So, what is the recent song you play in your bedroom?
BB: The recent one is Pillowtalk by Zayn Malik, a former singer from One Direction and he’s back for his single album. I like it because I like R&B and Hip Hop style of music, but when it’s a time bed, I would prefer a more chilling songs.

HAM: What is the recent temperature of Japan that you've experience?
BB: Durin my recent Japan tour, i was about -11 Celsius.

HAM: Can you name any Japanese food you really like during your concert tour?
BB: I like ramen. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant where you didn’t get to sit together but you have to sit individually. To order, you just have to tick on the form specifying how much green onion you want, how spicy you want. I like it because I can choose the level of spiciness from level 1 – 20. I choose level 8 almost every time I go there. Also, for the softness of ramen, I prefer medium, not to hard not to soft, and I also like to add 2 Chashu meat.

HAM: What kind of shoes do you normally wear, if you get to choose on your own?
BB: I like to wear a pointed and high heel style of shoes because I want to be unique (laughing). I remember when I wear this kind of shoes for the first time in Korean variety show, normally a man will not wear these kinds of shoes but when I was in that program, I feel that many people are wearing the same style and I do not want to wear that kind. From that time, I mostly buy pointed shoes or a shoes with higher heels. Like last time that GOT7 had a concert at GTH STAR THEQUE, I wore the 8inch one and it’s very tall (laughing).

HAM: You’re actually kind of picky person too. You seems like you choose everything for your life.
BB: Just a little. Like, if it’s not “The Best” then I’ll rather not take it.

HAM: You mean in everything of your life?
BB: Well, almost everything. From my clothes, bed sheets or even with songs. For example, the lyric, when the company send me the song and I have to write the lyric for it. If the lyric is not “The Best” then I’ll tell them that I didn’t do well, please have other write it instead of me. Or like the dance, although I can control it but if I see that there is some point that is not good enough then I will tell the company that this is not “The Best” yet. If it’s not good we should find some way to improve it. I do not like something that is not fully prepared, it is better to do it well that you wouldn’t regret after.

HAM: Then how “Best” do you think you are?
BB: I don’t know (laughing) this is hard to answer. I’m not even sure how best or perfect I am. But what I’m sure about is that I am not perfect in everything but at least if I want to do something, then I definitely will do my best out of it.

HAM: Your worst personality or the most not-perfect things that you really want to improve.
BB: I’m a picky person which is a double-sword. It has pros and cons because sometimes I should just let go of something. Like, although it is not the best but I should develop that into a better thing. But I’m not really good in doing such thing yet.

HAM: Since your debut as GOT7, which song do you think is “The Best” song from your group
BB: I guess it’s “If You Do” because not only the clothing, but the choreograph, music style, were all created by ourselves. Every single thing in there is what GOT7 want to do since debut, just because we didn’t have a chance to do it back then.

HAM: Let’s move to a broader picture, can you please tell us your interest that could best describe your identity.
BB: It must be music because it indicates my job and that’s the reason why I have to listen to many style of music. Although I might not like it but I have to listen to it so I learn about it. There are many factors when writing a lyric. Another thing that could identify me is the clothing. Whenever I have to go outside, if it’s not perfect, I won’t walk out the door (laughing).

HAM: So, you probably take much time during dress up?
BB: Well, about 1 hour. I take sometimes for shower too, about 40 mins. Clothing is what you can do to make you look good, look nice, that’s why I pay more attention to that.

HAM: How many times you think you change your hairstyle in a year?
BB: Oh! I change it so often (laughing). Actually, if I go out for work and I don’t have to change it, then I wouldn’t do it but because most of the time I have to, so I have to change more often. For example, like last year, I start off with black for about 5 months, then I changed to golden brown and after that I changed to red for about 2 months. Until I have to go for GTH Startheque Concert, which is a space-theme-like concept, I change my hair to gray and then to khaki. From that into Greenish Brown and because my hair damaged a lot so I change back to black now (laughing).

HAM: It seems like to have so much fun in styling your own hair.
BB: Yes, I find that people usually create a frame of yourself that sometimes you pay too much attention to that. And because of that, life is just too hard to handle. For example, if I want to wear yellow pant with purple shirt, a lot of you might think that it is not a good idea, it is not match. Or if I want to wear green pant, some might say it’s ridiculous. But if you just focus on other people's word, we won’t be able to step out of the dressing room. If you just let things go, not listening to the others, just think to yourself that you’ll go with this, you like it this way, you won’t limit your life. Do what you really want to do, I think it’s better to live your life this way. Even if it’s not working, you can just try a new one and you’ll find the best one someday.

HAM: Seems like you are confident with your thought, have you ever believe in what other says it’s not working on you?
BB: There is sometimes I feel a bit hesitated but because I do not want to regret later anymore. There is a time that I walk into a shop and I feel that that pair of shoes is just right for me. My friend say no to it so I decide not to buy it. But after I walk out of the shop and fly back to Korea the other day, I still think about it and later regret about it. I thought that I should’ve bought it since then but it's too late. Although, I have confident but sometimes I’ll face this kind of problems too.

HAM: How do you rate level of shopping?
BB: I think I’m still normal (laughing). I’m not a type of person who walks from shop to shop to see what’s in and out. Rather, I’ll search at home first to find what interests me. And If I really want it, I’ll go search for it at the store and if it’s not available then I won’t buy the others.

HAM: What kind of things that you buy the most?
BB: Shoes, because it has variety of colors or sometimes clothing that depends on seasons. Normally in Korea, if its summer, we will buy all the winter clothes to get ready for winter. When its winter, you buy all the summer clothes, so when the season changes you are already prepared.

HAM: Which seasons you like to dress up the most?
BB: Autumn, but there’s no autumn in Thailand (laughing). I think autumn is in the middle of winter and summer where you can just where normal tee or a long sleeve shirt with jacket on top is also fine. Nothing looks too hot or too cold during that time.

HAM: What kind of clothes do you set each time you fly back to Thailand?
BB: Oh! I’ll set it 3 months ahead (laughing). For example, if I bought one shirt and I plan to wear it in Thailand, 3 months before that I won’t wear it anywhere because I don’t want anyone to know that I have this shirt before.

HAM: One thing that you think it’s really worth in buying.
BB: A black pant I wear today. I wear it very often, like every single day. I bought it for half a year already and I never wash it (laughing). I don’t usually wash my pants. I just put on a perfume because if you wash it often the color will drain off. The pants will have it’s natural crease when you wear it and if you wash it, it will disappear. But I didn’t wear it every day just 4 days per week (laughing).

HAM: Your recent goal that you could think of for now
BB: I don’t know … well maybe my dream in Thailand first. To be honest, I really like about clothing, so I just wanted to change Thai Fashion (probably as an influencer for Thai fashion), just to make Thai people feel that oh, you can still wear this kind of fashion. Many Thai people still afraid that it might not be appropriate, but to me I think it depends on what you match with.

HAM: Do you ever want to be a designer?
BB: Yes, every time I prepare for an album, I will sketch out the style I want and show it to our stylist.

HAM: What about perfume, what kind of fragrant you like?
BB: I used to like a girl’s perfume before, I don’t really like guy’s perfume that much but now I change. I can use both. But after I try my new 50:50 hairstyle, my fans told me that I look manlier so I try to use guy’s perfume more often. Sometimes, I change perfume according to my look too.

HAM: What do your fans normally say about your look?
BB: Fans usually say I’m cute like a kid. A lot of them said so. I don’t usually hear they say I’m handsome when they talk about me.

HAM: So, you mean you don’t like it when other sees you as a kid… something like that?
BB: To be honest, I want to be handsome and cool and why is everyone only see my cute side. But now, I think it’s good. Sometimes I’m handsome, sometimes I’m cute, I got two styles out of it. For some people whom their look is dark and mature, if he wants to act cute, it might not work. However, I still have to grow, my face will change, and my cute side will continuously fade little by little.

HAM: What do you think about yourself in after 20 years, how do you think you’ll be and do you think you’ll be cute like now?
BB: In 20 years? I still wonder which country I’ll stay. If I’m in Thailand, I think I’ll be more manlier because Thai people likes mature, handsome, and cool guy, right?

HAM: Can you please explain your first year in Korea, do you still remember any moments during that time?
BB: Well, at that time it’s really fun. It is just tiring because I cannot speak English, Korea, Chinese, and Japanese. I cannot communicate with anyone but because I’m the youngest, the smallest among all. I am just 13 years old so even though I cannot communicate but all the elders took care of me, try to communicate with me by using hand language. They all try to communicate with me in everything and even took care of me so well. Whenever we went out for food, they will call my name and hold my hand to the place. At first, before I was there, I was really scare, I never stay alone before and because I always stay with my mom, I always think how will I survive without my mom. But when I went there, everything is fine, we just have to stay inside the dorm, practice on time, study this and that and do your best.

HAM: So, you can only speak Thai at that time?
BB: The great part of learning through experience is the language. At first, I cannot speak Korean at all, so I have to start from English. I started talking to foreigners and when I can speak English, I use English to learn Korean because the teacher can speaks English. From that, I start to know Korean and when I know Korean, I use it to study Chinese and when I know Chinese, I use it to learn Japanese. It’s a step by step process.

HAM: Actually, to become a singer in Korea, you have to trade a lot of things especially your school life.
BB: I didn’t have much problem with that, the only problem I have is the school because I have to drop out. But now, I’m currently studying, another one thing that missed out is my childhood life. Whenever I watch kids movie, I feel like, why didn’t I have this kind of feelings before. I work since I was 13 years old. I don’t have many friends in Thailand because I live in Korea since I was very young. Sometimes I feel a bit sad but such opportunity doesn’t come often. If I didn’t decide to come to Korea, I might not be able to go there ever. I think its better. You can just play when you get older.

HAM: We’ve heard a lot that the training in Korea is really tough, for a 13 years old boy, how do you feel? Is it really tough like what other said?
BB: The word tough is not that you have to practice all day all night that you couldn’t sleep, but it means it’s competitive. I went there since I was 13 so I’m still very young at that time and no one is the same age as me so I still have no one to compare with. But when I saw others who are 17-18 years old, they’re very competitive that they almost end up with a fight. Normally, we can stay together, but when there’s an examination, everyone will try so hard to beats each other. I think these are the factor to why people think being a trainee in Korea is tough. I think you just have to control your soul and heart.

When I watch over the entire trainee, I see that there is about 60 percent of the tension they had but right before my debut with GOT7, my company will organize a special project where all the trainees will gather together, form a team and battle with our team. I was 17 years old at that time but still I am the youngest while the other members are 21-22 years old and that really stress us out. I try not to become stress and enjoy things I like out of it. If it’s not working then it’s not and that really gave us the real experiences. When you think this way, it makes you feel more comfortable to work and to practice. It's like when you write the lyrics to the songs, it will be easier.

HAM: What drives you from then until now?
BB: Family is a part of it. But because I am here striving on my own, I think to believe in yourself is the best. Be confident. Actually, I’m not a perfect person and I’m not a person who is better than the other but if you’re confident on what you like, on things you really want to go for then you definitely can do it. Like what people usually said, “Where’s there a will, there’s a way,” I think it’s really true.

HAM: What is the best part of being a youngest member of the group?
BB: To be honest, our team doesn’t have elder or younger, everyone is the same. Because we have 3 foreigners in our team which is me from Thailand, Mark-hyung from LA USA, and Jackson-hyung from Hong Kong, and when we spend our lives together, I also absorb an American lifestyle too. Whenever we talk together, we usually speak English. The other 4 members who are Koreans also absorb American culture as well, that’s why when we’re together, we doesn’t have to call each other hyung because we are like friends.

HAM: What if tomorrow your memories will be deleted and you will be sent back home where you can only have one best memory back with you, which moment do you think you want to have it back?
BB: Can I have two? The first one is when GOT7 got number 1 for the first time in music show with the song, If You Do. Actually, this just happen last year, I feel so good at that time because we work really hard for more than a year and because of our hard work that derives us to receive number one that makes me feel great. That day is one of the Best Memory of GOT7 really.

The second one is the time of my coming of age. Let me explain it first, in Korea it is different in how you count your age. If you’re 19 and you’re passing the midnight of December 31 you will automatically become 20 that you don’t have to wait until your birthday. At that time, I and GOT7 members are working, while you guys are doing the countdown, we also countdown on stage (laughing) and because most of our members are already 20. Everyone is waiting for me to turn 20 for 3 years already because every time they celebrate I have to stay at home.

But when I was 20 and everyone is now 20, we went out to celebrate New Year party at the beef barbecue restaurant. We keep on eating and chit-chatting, it was really fun because we can stay as long as we want. It’s all because I was already 20 and that was one of my best memories as well.

HAM: Please tell us your this year plans.
BB: GOT7 had a concert tour in Japan for 2 months already and now it’s done. GOT7 is now preparing for the new album, please look forward to this album too because we are planning to go tour in many cities and countries in Asia including Thailand. There will be even more special plans for Thailand too, please look forward to it. Also, we’re planning with our company to visit Europe countries but we’re not sure yet so please wait for it.

HAM: Now, you’re becoming an idol for many fans who wants to cherish their dreams to become a singer, could you share with us some tips on how to be like you?
BB: Like what I said, you shouldn’t set the limit to yourself. I want everyone to be more diligent, you don’t have to become a singer, like you can be diligent in everything you do, just do your best out of it. If you try your best, I believe you will be successful. It might be a bit tiring or you might feel a bit down, but if you’re down and you quit, you won’t live your life to the fullest.

HAM: Can you give us that keyword you really want to say…
BB: I always use YOLO… You Only Live Once. I think it is true, you are born just once, sometimes there might be mistakes in your life, me too, I have a mistakes in my life and many of my mistakes is big. I try to learn from those mistakes, if you know you did wrong, you might feel stress, paranoid, feel like the world is such a boring place but when time flies, you will soon forget all the feeling you have. Just think that it is just another lesson for you to learn about it.

HAM: Last question, if you have to choose one question from today’s interview to ask your members, what would it be?
BB: I’ll choose the question about the memories being deleted and you are allowed to only keep one best memory. I want to know which memory will the members want to remember.

-- End --

**Please accept my weird English ㅠㅠ**
