TRANSLATION OF THE RADIO FG INTERVIEW

- Not really known in France few months ago, Adam Lambert has now invaded your radios and your playlists with GT. It’s with a real pleasure that I have Adam Lambert tonight for a special show, because there is a LOT of things to say about this totally atypical artist: funny, talented, etc. So Adam, I just told it: the French has recently discovered you but you had already been revealed by American Idol and with the tribute tour with Queen. What would you say to our listeners to introduce you?

- Adam: I’ve only been here a few times and every time I come, I learn something new! I don’t say it to be politically correct but Paris is such a beautiful city!!!! Everytime I come, my arms are falling [ndlr: I translated it literally but I don’t know if this expression exists in English, it’s the same as jaw dropping]: the buildings, the history, arts, ... everything is mixed and it’s really inspiring for me!

- interviewer: what’s your name “A-dent Lent-bèèèèèèèrt” [French pronunciation] or Adam Lambert ?

- Adam: I like the French pronunciation because it sounds much better!!

-interviewer: perfect!!!! Adam Lambert is my guest on the “Happy Hour”

- woman voice: tonight, Antoine Baduel receives Adam Lambert.

- interviewer: tonight, I have the pleasure to be with the singer Adam Lambert. I still don’t know if we say Lambèèèrt because it sounds really French or Lambert. He makes pop music, he made glam-rock. The singer Adam Lambert has already many artistic lifes: discovered by American Idol, until he founds his magical recipe -> a very melodic pop and energetic, mixed with deep-house. His single ghost town slays!! Tonight Adam Lambert is my guest on the “Happy Hour’. Good evening, welcome on radio FG.

- Adam: bonsoir

- interviewer: the public now listens to GT, a track really different from what you’ve done in the past. It’s a mix between pop and deep-house. What had bring you to this sound, because before your music sounded more “rock”?

- Adam: yes that’s true when I did American Idol, I was into something really glam-rock. I’ve always been inspired by the artists from the past who were very theatrical. Even I, when I was young, did a lot of musicals so I wanted to work initially on this idea for a show. But over the 6 last years, it has evolved into something different and I started to listen to a lot of electro. I wanted to make music reflecting my life and not anymore a caricature. When we were working on GT, the vocal part with the guitar sounded very melancholic, almost sad. When we listened to it with my producers, we were “mmm yeah but no it’s not perfect. The lyrics are great, the melody is great, but something is not working” and that’s where I thought “maybe we should add house music from the 90s. Two weeks later, we had this version that made me fall out of my chair.

- interviewer: it’s very interesting because there are some rock influences, some pop tracks, deep, melodic, more catchy… There are a lot of sides in your artistic personality. It’s almost as if you had two faces. How do you explain it? Does it reflect the ups and downs that we are facing in life?

- Adam: yeah! There is definitvely a part of me who likes to be shown, a bit exhibitionist. All the rock bands I was listening to, including Queen, has influenced this part of my personality. But with this album TOH, I had to opportunity to dig deeper, more subtile, more intimate. It’s as if I was singing directly into the ears of my listeners.

- interviewer: so now you have a common point with someone we love at radio FG, who is Madonna, with this single GT! And there is another common point, your devouring passion for the fashion. How much does it influence your character and most of all the music that you’re making?

- Adam: I think if you like the avant-garde and original fashion, it means to me that you remained like a kid. When you’re young, you like to dress up. And I was like this, I was always wearing a costume! And it has become my life now: to work on my show in a very theatrical manner. It’s really close to the “avant-garde” fashion

- interviewer: we have discovered you with American Idol, a TV show. But there’s also Internet, youtube, … to reveal talents and can boost the careers. Do you think without these new medias you would have succeeded the same?

- Adam: it’s a very good question! I think the things are currently changing and when I did American Idol, Spotify wasn’t existing, youtube existed but few artists were using it. That’s true that now artists are “exploding” with these new technologies. You know, I’m very thankful towards American Idol because they introduced me [in the music industry] and let me show my skills. Now, less ppl are watching it so I don’t know if it would have the same power if I had done the show only last year.

- interviewer: we will find Adam on the stage of Le Grand Palais in Paris the next 19th of November in exclusivity for the first time in France. Now playing GT, his new single that he will obviously perform there [at the 19th of November concert ].
*ghost town is playing*

- interviewer: the worldwide phenomenom, Adam Lambert, who will for the first time in a stage in France the 19th of November at the radio FG party in Le Grand Palais, next to Jess Glynne and ???? Anna Aclan ??????[i don’t understand the name]. Hurry up to get a ticket!!!
Talking about your new album TOH, it's here also very diverse musically. Tell us what you were trying to do and to tell us with this album.

- Adam : you know, I wanted to do something that was a bit more honest, more sensitive, something coming more from the heart compared to what I’ve done in the past. I wanted an album less focused on a concept and more on the notion of truth/realness. I wanted something that was looking like me, for example a story telling about a night in Hollywood - where I live – or in NY, going to a club with friends, drinking some glasses, partying, waking up the morning and do it all over again… And what does it sound like? That is exactly what TOH is.

- interviewer: you said it’s a very personal album and it’s true we’re coming from an emotion to an other. Did you try to expose different moments of your life, the goods and the bads ?

- Adam: things are not all black or white. We are not all the time sad, all the time happy. There are so many shades of grey in between. The album is even like that!! In each song!! For example GT, the atmosphere is very melancholic with a lot of disillusion, feeling empty, a real questioning about the world. And then the drop is coming and makes you wanna dance! To make coexist these contradictory feelings together in one song…. that’s life!

- interviewer: you are an artist openly gay! It’s really courageous to tell it. Do the gay culture and gay musical scene inspire your work?
[ndlr: radio FG is THE French gay radio, “radio FG” means “radio fréquence gay”]

- Adam: I mean…… Listen. I come from clubs where I spent most of my youth, between los angeles and new York. I used to dress up like crazy with my friends with make up, heels, costumes…. Now I can tell I’ve done it. Maybe I’ll do it again but only for Halloween. I feel like I’ve changed. But I’m still inspired by that person I was, because that’s a part of my story!

- interviewer: I was also talking about the sounds in the gay clubs!!! Twenty or thirty years ago, it seems like they were laboratories to discover music – a thing that we are feeling less nowadays in Europe. Is it the same in the US ?

- Adam: actually I think this album, more than any ones I’ve done is very gay-clubs. The influence of the house is more than obvious. But you know before, when I was influenced by glam-rock, people were seeing my accessories/costumes/crazy feathers and they told “but this is SO gay” whereas in reality most of the gays I know would never go out dressed like this! Today with TOH, I feel like I can represent more my community because I simply know it better!

- interviewer: with the Queen tour, you have a real experience of the stage performance and of the production. When you produced the album, were you thinking about how it will be in live, to imagine a full story for your fans especially for the live performances?

- Adam: to be honest, I’ve got only recently few ideas. It’s interesting because this album is less theatrical compared to what I’ve done in the past. Of course I will come on stage with a lot of things, or at least I hope so XD, but it is not that simple to reflect the album atmosphere on stage. The album is very internal, abstract, almost philosophical, the lyrics have less visuals, it’s more about what I feel. So the preparations for the live will have to focus on that. I need to find an image to all these feelings I wanted to deliver!

- interviewer: thank you, thank you so much A-dent Lambèèèert/ Adam lambert!!! I don’t know how we should pronounce?!

- Adam: I like the French pronunciation, it sounds much better!!

- interviewer: exactly!!! Anyway, thank you very much.
So you’ve understood: Adam Lambert, whom we discovered on radio FG with GT, will be in live the next 19th of November on the scene of Le Grand Palais. Besides Adam, we will have also Jess Glynne (they talk about this singer). And I remind you, the album of Adam Lambert is called The Original High.
