Here is my summary on the prospects the NYI got. There is no star prospect here, but a number of guys who are either somewhat above-average now, or used to be top prospects.

Matt Finn was a former top 100 prospect of mine, who struggled as a first year pro. Tom Nilsson was one of the best defensemen at his WJC, and was quite good in the Swedish pro leagues, but was up and down this past season with the Marlies. Beck was good as a Junior and pro, but not excellent and has been a bubble NHL player for years due to his lack of foot speed. Verhaghe is probably the best prospect of the bunch (although I see a case for Nilsson and Beck) just because he has promise as a skilled playmaker although remains to be seen how he handles the pro game. I’ve never been a huge Chris Gibson fan but the goalie was solid in the AHL the previous season.

After graduating many names to the NHL and with more soon to come like Ryan Pulock, Bridgeport had very few options for the Isles. This trade replenishes their depth at all positions, with 5 players going to their AHL or NHL team and gives them call up options for the next two years.

If you want any further elaboration on the trade or players, feel free to ask.
