A couple of interesting notes on Junior Galette's contract I just came across:

He had what's called a preseason split salary, which means if he got hurt before Week 1, he'd receive $413k instead of his full salary of $745k. So a torn Achilles costs him $332k.

Also, the Saints are claiming Galette voided the guarantee on his base salary of $1.25 million for this season, according to two sources. That means they don't intend to pay any of that money. It's unclear what their specific basis is for claiming Galette voided the guarantee. Saints GM Mickey Loomis couldn't be immediately reached, while Galette's agent, Alvin Keels, didn't respond to requests for comment.

Galette banked $4.35 million last year in the first year of a four-year extension with the Saints and then received another $12.5 million in the spring after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse -- charges that were dismissed in February, a few weeks before the $12.5 million was due.

There's no indication the Saints are trying to get back any of the $12.5 million they paid him in the spring. He's slated to count $12.1 million against the Saints' salary cap in 2016.

In June, video surfaced of a man striking a woman with a belt during a fight on the beach. Galette's attorney denied the man in the video was Galette. The Saints released Galette in late July.
