This is eminently relevant to Tredworth as well as Barton, as the All Nations Club is barely outside the ward's boundary...

'A police spokesman said they had a recent meeting with the centre's licensee to discuss measures for a late night event to make it more secure.

'"The club expressed a view that instead of these measures it would like police to pass by the gates more often, which we said we are happy to do, resource permitting, when informed of any events that may require it," he said.'

Amid all the talk of investigations and arrests and tributes, there is not a single place on the Citizen's Facebook page where closure of the club can be discussed, without strident cries from the typical Facebook mob that to do is disrespectful to the victim. It seems to be the elephant in the room, and the contrast with what happened to the Golden Heart in Tredworth, after a single raid, is stark.

As anyone knows that the cash-strapped police are not going to 'pass by the gates' in the early hours of the morning, it should be equally obvious that the club is sticking two fingers up to the notion of showing ANY responsibility for a long history of criminal behaviour, including violence, inside the club and in the immediate vicinity.

Why are they allowed to? The least disturbing answer would be political correctness, ironically. That the authorities are afraid to be seen as singling out members of the black community, who are the club's chief clientele. A more alarming possibility is that the police and the council are actually being intimidated by gangs associated with the club, and worst of all, that they are in the pockets of these gangs.

Is that a suggestion/accusation too far? There's an easy way to disprove it. Stop turning a blind eye to this dissolute institution, and show everyone in Gloucester that at least this one time, something meaningful will come out of a senseless death.
