EnnullilMsv..Thoughts on the show

Writing this since i am not sure how much of it is going to be seen on TV, and even if seen how much can be felt as against the live show.

I had gone earlier to the show and was luckily allowed to sit inside when the rehearsals were on. Heard a violin piece performed as a solo by every violinist to check the balance of the string section and was enthralled. It was so melting with a majestic structure.
When in the show it came as the interlude for Nenjam marapadillai-as a string chorus-it was subdued as it had the timestamp and it wasnt the same beauty and power. That moment made me think for the rest of the song and kind of brought the whole essence of MSV for me.
A man crowded out by his time, giant peers, his own out of the range modesty amidst his undeniable quality.
And it was this essence that Raaja tried to bring to the front time and again.Even being mentally prepared for Raaja's glowing words for MSV what Raaja did there was something else..it was Pure worship out there.

There were two periods Raaja narrated about and all this was spread across as you always expect from Raaja, the unprepared straight from heart recital.
The first is about MSV's impact on Raaja before being a musician as a noman in some corner land.
It was not the colossal genius that was standing in front but the teenager (born for music) who was longing but deprived of listening to music due to poverty and lack of facilities. The rarely heard lines of MSV was his only connect with his purpose (unknown to him then, made known to him by MSV,which he beautifully linked in the line - thelivum ariyathu, mudivum theriyathu mayanguthu ethir kaalam)
MSV was god send for him. And likewise to so many. The imagery of him and Kannadasan, what they meant to the society then was so visible.
Time and again through various instances this is what came about - how while going to school he used to sing his songs, how his mother use to sing those songs, how
his brother used it in communist setting, it was MSV all around him. Like he said in Hindu interview inspiration is a smaller word and it was as if he was filled with MSV.
His emotions came out so stunningly in maalai pozhuthin..you could sense him losing himself at times and reliving his past,he couldnt help calling MSV's genius in every such moment..it was unbeliveable to see it live..
The second narrative was how after being a musician MSV had an impact on him
He recited a beautfiul incident of how dhanraj master would trash MSV and his head was full of it. But when he went to MSV's session he was taken aback by his mastery and realised Dhanarj was qualified to criticize but not himself. That made him work harder, admire and learn more from MSV. He said he learnt to do the entire music creation all alone
from MSV's impact. And through various nuances explained MSV's genre handling, sahithyam handling, ideations based on WCM, meeting limitations which can obviously be seen in abundance in Raaja.Again there were many instances which made raaja lose himself while explaining, things that were too obvious and contextual for him to explain. He even failed to complete his explanations sometimes but things were conveyed alrite. And he also reminded of the musicians, performers those days, their capabilities and technical prowess, lost count of how many people he said he wanted to fall on feet.
He opened with the premise and time and again reminded that MSV's modesty meant he would not be considered like that but MSV remains the greatest composer ever and none would be like him.

And also as always the curious case of Ilaiyaraaja and the way his morality, logic, interpretations work..Be it his explanation for not inviting SPB/SJ or the industry, his rejection of fan's request for ullathil nalla ullam, when his grandchildren did a piano piece he preempted confusion (not in me sure)
saying do you guys think that i am out there to showcase my grandchildren and went ahead with the link, his handling of rajini's presence...never on the fence..it was fascinating
But really seeing live, the palpable fandom in raaja, the moments of silence, the moments that reflected his nearness, the moments of reassuring his presence still to him/us, loss for words on MSV made the day..
Aptly titled EnullillMSV brought about how MSV had impacted Raaja as a common man for life and Raaja as man of such stature later was impacted professionally/artistically..A complete legacy for you
