So, some news. I got fired.

BR Radio is changing in year 2 and the folks taking control at Sirius don’t want me, or most of us, to stay. The Morning B/Reakaway is dead. Thursday was my last show. I was told I’m being replaced by someone reading sports news. I hope he’s a robot.

I’ll spare you all the “thanks to the following people who helped along the way” stuff. But yeah, fi that's you, then that.

This also means I’m done at Bleacher Report, as I hadn’t written anything for the site since March. This is twice in six months I was told my job is being eliminated, which is awesome to hear when I was the only person both times to ever have that job.

It was a wonderful opportunity at BR; how me and a handful of friends helped change a website with the worst reputation in the business into an unstoppable sports monster. Somewhere along the way, the place was magic. It hasn’t been the same for some time, and it’s not for me to decide if that’s a good thing or bad. It’s just very, very different than it was when we really got going.

At least I outlasted most of the magic.

It has been made clear to me that I don’t have a big enough name. If I did, Turner would still want me to write for them and Sirius would still want me to talk for them. I’ve been given every opportunity to make my name bigger at BR. I thank them for that. So I guess that’s on me.

Which means I have three choices:
• Figure out how to make my name bigger;
• Find a place that still values hard work and quality and wants a guy who will proofread his own tweets five times because you never catch enough by the fourth, and someone who will wake up every day at 3:30 to prep for a radio show that starts at 7 in hopes of finding that one piece of a story everyone else is missing;
• Or disappear for a bit, stop feeling sorry for myself, and do something else for a while.

I have made a lot of friends in this business. If any of you need anyone like me to work with and/or for you, I’m around. Over the next month, I’m going to write that book I was supposed to write a while back. Maybe that will help me get a bigger name. (Do people still read books?) Oh, I’m working on a charity project with my kids that I will need all your help with next week. Thanks in advance.

Thanks as well to all the listeners and readers and tweeters over the years. I’ve never met a lot of you, but it’s incredible how much better you can make someone’s day just by sending a little note to read on the air, or to use to make that next article a little better.

No thanks to the jerks, though, because you are jerks. I've been waiting to say that for a while.
