NSCDC Investigates Susepct’s Death In Custody In Sokoto


The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps ( NSCDC) said it had set up of a committee to unravel the mystery behind the death of a 38-year old suspect, Jamilu Abdullahi, while in its custody.

The Commandant of the corps in the state, Mr Bello Musa, who spoke to newsmen in Sokoto on Monday, confirmed the death of the suspect.

” I can authoritatively confirm the death of the deceased after he was arrested by operatives of the corps at the Sokoto South Local Government Division in Sokoto, following a complaint lodged by his neighbour.

” But it is untrue that personnel of the corps killed him. The ongoing investigations will reveal the cause of his death.

” Any officer who might be indicted by the ongoing investigations will face the wrath of the law,” Musa, said.

He said that the deceased was arrested after a complaint lodged by one Amina Mohammed, sequel to a ” misunderstanding’’.

The commandant also confirmed that the corpse of the suspect which was rejected by his family, was currently being kept at the morgue of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

” We hope to take the corpse of the deceased back to the family together with the death certificate any moment from now.

” Then we expect that they will receive it and bury his remains according to Islamic rites,” he said.
