Filipino seafarers cautioned on “Samoa International Maritime Authority”

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) yesterday warned Filipino seafarers and ship owners about a certain Samoa International Maritime Authority (SIMA) which was reported to be operating illegally.

Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac said the Embassy of Samoa in Tokyo has issued a Note Verbale categorically confirming that the operations of “SIMA” are fraudulent, illegal, and do not in any way represent its government.

Cacdac said SIMA is allegedly engaged in the registration of international vessels and seafarers and is operating through their website www.maritimesamoa.com out of Thailand and the United Kingdom using the name, flag and crest of the Independent State of Samoa.

The Ministry for Transport of Samoa has also declared that SIMA is engaged in illicit acitivities and has misrepresented the sovereignty of his country. /END
