Letter sent to my MP about fox hunting & human rights:
Dear Mark Prisk,
A friend of mine, another of your constituents, recently wrote to you about the Hunting Act. I hope that you don't mind that he shared your reply with me. In it, you wrote: "I would vote to repeal [the Act]. In my judgement the Act does nothing to protect wild animals." I fear that a terrible misunderstanding has befallen you, as the Act protects foxes, which are wild animals. I can't help but notice that a similar misunderstanding has infected the Conservative Party when it comes to humans, who will no longer be protected by the Human Rights Act.
If parliament legalises hunting, I pledge, as your constituent, to become a hunt saboteur. Without human rights, I expect that it won't be long before the hunters realise they can have more fun hunting saboteurs than foxes. No doubt Theresa May will go on the airwaves to justify the new sport on the grounds of tackling extremism.
How fortunate that the Conservatives are no longer the nasty party.
Yours sincerely,
Alex Nunns
