THE POSITION
As an integral part of the Atlas Venture team, the Associate will support investment and portfolio management activities of the partnership. Primary roles will be due diligence, new company formation, and deal management. In supporting our investment strategy, the Associate will be called upon to conduct and lead scientific, strategic, financial, and operational diligence for individual investments, as well as generating financial models to guide decisions across the total portfolio. In addition, he/she will research markets and disease areas for a startup’s products, prepare presentations for both internal and external use, track competitive investment information and handle a variety of other projects.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred credentials include an advanced degree (MD, PhD, MBA) from a top tier university. In addition we require at least two years of rigorous analytical experience, ideally in life science-focused management consulting, investment banking, or principal investing. Familiarity with the pharmaceutical and biotech industry is an important pre-requisite.
The candidate will have a keen interest in exploring newly developing technologies as well as the ability to gather and evaluate information from a wide range of sources. Most important are the scientific and financial analytic skills necessary to review the scientific merits and operating plans of potential and existing investments.
PERSONAL QUALITIES
The selected candidate will be a self-starter who has excelled in previous academic and work environments, and has demonstrated the ability to work independently. Qualities of integrity, focus, and maturity are key. This Associate must possess superb communication skills and a cooperative work style. We seek an individual who can handle multiple challenges simultaneously. Lastly, the person should be a team player who will enjoy working in a close-knit and collaborative firm culture.
