Here's Why This Child Porn Shit Matters

I'm not going to preface this with any big moral statements. Every decent human being knows that child pornography is wrong. That's why, when allegations of Child Pornography come up they should be taken very seriously, but by the authorities.

What Dan Olson did was wrong in every way possible. He posted "blurred" images of what is potentially Child Pornography in order to Prove that he was right in an Internet argument, made incredible allegations about the people who run a public website and, in doing so, hurt a lot of innocent people.

Dan Olson is not a journalist - his investigation was to go to a board, screen capture that board, and complain about the images posted there. He did not contact the website administrator about said images (even Reddit, 4Chan, imgur, Slashdot, 8Chan, and every other website on the planet) has a method of contacting the website owner in order to have the content taken down (and, presumably, have the authorities contacted with the appropriate information about who posted it).

When journalists act to "expose" child pornographers they are often working with law enforcement to gather evidence and help get those criminals arrested. When a news outlet post an intentionally inflammatory censored image they often do so with law enforcement and victim (or legal guardian) approval to expose a problem and help get it corrected.

Dan Olson did none of that. What Mr. Olson did was post an inflammatory message with what may have been very disturbing images. He did not coordinate any effort with law enforcement, and did not make any effort to contact the victims to make sure they would be OK with what he was doing.

Child Rape - and that's what Child Pornography is - is a very traumatic experience and the blatant disregard for the welfare of these children cannot go ignored. Dan Olson did this for popularity's sake. He did this to get more followers, to get more exposure, and to curry favor with a certain political element. If this man cared one ounce for the people who are actually hurt by child rape, Dan Olson would not have posted any of those images.

He would have contacted the authorities. He would have worked with law enforcement to solve the issue. He would have done a lot of things differently. Instead, Dan Olson only cared about one person: himself.

The children that are harmed in these instances get pushed to the side so Dan Olson can make a political statement.

Child Rape is being used by Dan Olson to push his political agenda.

What's worse is that several popular people are supporting him in this effort to use child rape to push their agenda. If any of these people actually cared they would have worked with the proper authorities and organizations dedicated to helping rid the world of this crime. Instead, they used it to garner favor and gain popularity.

In the end, the only thing Dan Olson achieved was letting child abusers know of a safe space where they can gather.

Good job, Dan.
