A Holiday Message: Keeping It All In Perspective

Keeping It All In Perspective: Tis' the holiday season when everyone's heart should be filled with love and joy...and the inclination to do good. In the wake of the Sony hacking scandal and subsequent cancellation of their film due to the bullying of an evil foreign faction and the tragic incident involving the children in Peshawar, oftentimes it is hard to find the cheer in the season. And now, closer to home..a tragedy has befallen a school in our area. A family of five, and two grandparents, were struck by an intoxicated driver while crossing the street after attending a Christmas performance at their children's school, killing the mother, her five-year old son, injuring her two daughters and her husband...who currently lies in ICU. Also killed in the accident were two grandparents (not related to the family) The father will hopefully awaken, but to the worst reality imaginable, that his wife and son are gone. He will then have the horrific task of telling his two daughters, who he will now have to raise alone, what has happened to their mom and brother...one week before Christmas.

It is times like this that make you stop and take stock of your own life. To realize that we must let the small petty things that occupy our minds each day fall to the wayside. To be grateful for the loved ones in our lives and to hold them close. Each day is precious and we never know what tomorrow will bring.

It is sad and tragic that we live in a world where some people choose to squander their energy spreading negativity: in their written words...cowardly hidden behind anonymous blogs, emails, letters...or in their irresponsible actions. I pity those individuals who are unable to find a positive path to follow with an equal measure of passion that they use to exude their unfortunate ramblings and behavior.

In the meantime, there are people suffering all around us who need our help, our love and attention. And that is where our focus should be. Find those in your area and reach out to help them in any way you can. We can give of our time and talents in many ways so that those on the receiving end will be truly touched, feel loved and not alone...and we can know, in our hearts, we are spreading positivity and kindness.

Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings!
Marlise
