NSCDC trains officers

The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it had commenced training of its men and officers in preparation for the 2015 general elections in the state.

The state commandant of the NSCDC, Adebayo Ayeni, who spoke in Ibadan during the passing-out ceremony of the first batch of trainees on Thursday, said the instructors’ retraining effort was instituted to equip the officers for the task.

He charged his men to sustain their focus because of their importance in ensuring peaceful elections. He added that 115 officers were involved in the first batch and that at the end of the exercise, more than 2,500 officers and men would have gone through the training process.

Ayeni said, “The retraining of our officers and men is in accordance with the national headquarters’ policy in ensuring proper training of the officers to withstand the challenges posed by insecurity in our country.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned and that is why the exercise will benefit all the officers and men in the command.”

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Oluwole Olusegun, said, “The state commandant is hereby calling on the general public to embrace peace in their homes throughout the state as that is the only way they can help to bring calmness to the society.”
