Dear Viking Friends and Family:

I’m filled with many emotions today – sadness, gratitude and pride, to name a few. Knowing that I will no longer spend my days with the men who are part of Viking football is the hardest part of this transition for me. I’m a coach because of the opportunity to help young men be better on and off the field – but most importantly, to grow as people and succeed in life.
I’m grateful to many in the PSU community. To former AD Torre Chisholm for giving me the opportunity to be a head coach at the age of 33. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished here, and I believe the program has been left better than how we found it. Though the obstacles at PSU have been well documented, wins and losses dictate your longevity in this game. While we were so close so often, we simply didn’t win enough. I’m thankful to our fans, boosters and alumni who care so deeply about Portland State football. The outpouring of support I received today has been so appreciated. I am also so very grateful for my assistant coaches and staff who spent countless hours working to build this program. I thank you sincerely.
To the team: I will always believe that this was one of the finest groups of young men ever. You fought hard and believed in each other. You believed in the values of integrity, responsibility, accountability, hard work and perseverance. Please know how very proud I was to be your coach. And though we may not be in the same house any longer, we will always be family.
Football is important at Portland State University – not just for the games on Saturdays – but because of the difference it makes for these student athletes. For some, it’s the only way into college, and for all, it’s a brotherhood and opportunity for personal growth that is unmatched by other experiences. We’ve built a strong foundation over the last five years, and it’s my sincere hope that the future will hold good things for PSU football.
Go Viks!
