On boycotting game developers #gamergate

Unlike journalism sites, any criteria for boycotting devs is much more ambiguous. Do you boycott for anti-consumer practices, and what are they? Do you boycott because an employee said something negative against GG? That alienates neutral devs whose pro-gg employees are staying quiet.

You're free to take whatever you want into consideration while making your own purchasing decisions but a boycott entails a boycott list in the name of GG, and a boycott list will inevitably have ambiguous or misinformed inclusions, be cherrypicked and distributed by anti-gg, and alienate neutrals. That shitty Escapevevo/criticalkelly list is a perfect example, it includes devs that are neutral towards GG, and even Riot Games when according to a Riot insider most of his colleagues are pro-gg.

Distributing boycott lists of devs in the name of GG is counterproductive and has been universally condemned every time it's been suggested. See http://strawpoll.me/3055838/r and how nearly every single response to Kelly's plan is negative. Letting such a boycott list be distributed without opposition is even more harmful by making it easier for antis to pretend it represents GG even if nobody participates.

Furthermore, though it's an ad-hominem, note that Kelly has responded extremely poorly to any and all criticism of the idea, in rather shitposty form.

Anyways, tl;dr just shop smart. You don't need a fucking gg list telling you who not to buy from.
