Raj: 4:35! I am sure your dil ki dhadkan is kinda getting bit crazy now. It’s beating faster no? Because my special guest for today is ready for you but the question is are you ready for him? I know he is the Mr Right for a lot of you ladies out there and even probably some of the guys out there as well! It is the one and the only, it is like bringing back a family friend on here on drive time as well. It is Barun Sobti!

Raj: Hi Barun! Where are you? How are you?

Barun: Hey! Very Well! And how are you?

Raj: I am also very well my friend! Can I just say it has been sometime Barun since you came here on Drive Time! I am so so happy that today you have joined us here live on the radio.

Barun: Yeah thrilled that it makes you feel good!

Raj: You know congratulations on Main Aur Mr Riight! The promos looking fantastic and you are looking in very fit shape as well.

Barun: Yeah! Yeah! Thanks! Yeah!

Raj: Are you excited about the film? Of course the film’s releasing on 12th Dec?

Barun: Umm excited? Yeah I am excited and I mean and in a traditional kind of way. But usually what has happens is I have done this you know where usually this happens with films where you work on them, they come out let’s say after a long time. So it’s…not really excited but I am anxious! I am now..because I have done this a while ago the thought of it comes in later unlike television which I have done all my life. So it makes you feel anxious more than excited.

Raj: I know we have been waiting for a long time and finally 12th of Dec is the release date and will be looking forward to seeing you. I know you have been working on it for some time but fans have been waiting for it for a long time that’s why I think it’s going to be a special date in Sobtian fans diary.

Barun: Yeah hopefully!

Raj: Umm right! Barun let’s talk about the character. I mean for the people that don’t know so much about the film and about your character in the film, which I don’t think there’s many, can you tell us a bit about the role of Sukhi?

Barun: Sukhi is a wanna be actor, a wanna be model actor like…Sukhi is like those millions of boys that have come the industry thinking that he may be the next Salman Khan. And in their own way they also try to be like him..you know..from the way they can look and talk without realising…probably subconsciously they realise it…probably as much as we get to do. So he is one of those boys you know and a happy go lucky guy. According to my understanding it is a quirky character and according to my understanding when I read the script the character thinks a lot like I do. He doesn’t talk like I do but he thinks a lot like I do. I mean he will always do the right thing. So yeah it’s more fulfilling, it’s very fulfilling to have done something like that.

Raj: I know you are going to get this question asked a lot and you kinda mentioned it there as well that does that character…can you relate to that character a lot? I mean Sukhi’s character?

Barun: See! I will tell you what happens for me. That there is certain mannerisms ..ok? …that the character has that is very grass root level for me. Ok? So mannerism no! But there’s a subconscious of a character that one actor understands… which is the subtext, which is the depth ..which is how the character goes .. if it is accepted or liked …depends if you understand the subconscious of the character. So subconsciously yes I related a lot to Sukhi. In all the scenes that we did what Sukhi does I would have done it in real life. So if the situation was like that probably not in the same language but I would have done the same thing.

Raj: Okay! Barun what I am gonna do is, there are so many questions coming about the film that fans have sent me. Gotta say thank you very much to @Team Barun on twitter who have supported a lot and have given us lot of the questions collated from the fans. Now what we gonna do is…some of the questions …There’s a question of Naeha something about the character which we were just talking about now and she wants to know is there something that we can all learn from Sukhi’s character. Is there something that fans can learn about the particular style that you played in the film?

Barun: Ya! I will tell you what people can learn from Sukhi’s character is that it’s okay to speak the truth!

Raj: Oh! Okay!

Barun: Yeah it’s okay to speak the truth! People…Us…I mean all human beings ..we for a short term benefit ..we lie..that never works out in the long run. But people just wanna avoid the awkward moment that is going to come right at the moment that you say the truth so people avoid telling the truth. But the fact is you are gonna be fine if you say that truth! You are gonna live like Sukhi lives on after he says all the truth.

Raj: Ohhh that’s got me intrigued now! There’s a question from Mahezabeen as well. Mahezabeen wants to know what’ was your reaction and the feedback that you got from the people from the fans that have seen the trailer? …after they had seen the trailer?

Barun: See I love the trailer myself too! And that’s actually what I told my wife when I got back home for the first time after I saw the trailer. And I knew that people are gonna love it. I think it serves the people in the right fashion this promo because I think the young people …that’s what the target audience is…youth and niche ..so the youngsters are gonna like it really well and that’s exactly what happened! That’s the answer to your question is that everyone who has seen the promo they have really liked it. I think people were surprised because I think I people were not expecting it to be this awesome. So yeah I think it surprised everyone. So yeah that’s what’s so far.

Raj: It’s gotta a very kinda young feel to it. And that’s one thing…and a very feel good factor. You know when you watch the trailer you feel good about yourself. I think that’s what people wanna see!

Barun: Exactly!

Raj: They wanna have their escapism from cinema, they wanna escape from all the real life stuff that’s happening in the world.

Barun: Right! Right! Right! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! I mean while we were filming it…not mine but this is was the agenda of the team work that no heavy duty stuff, we are gonna keep it crazy like the way we are like the youth is..and you know it’s not a melodramatic film and all. It’s a very breezy film. It will put a smile on your face for sure. So that’s what the point was!

Raj: Brilliant! Right PvN wants to ask, How did you in reality prepare for this role? Was there anything in particular that you kinda had to tailor yourself to do to kinda age ready for the role?

Barun: See I saw a few films of Salman Khan and you know stuff that’s were…but to be honest with you I think when I did this film I thought to myself that this film is based on totally how I understand psychologies. I didn’t prepare much and I was working as Arnav at that time and I was shooting this film. Which is an absolute contrast to both of these characters. At the same time forget about preparation or no I had no time to sleep. And I was doing such contrasting characters at the same time and I almost 2 and half or 3 months that we…I almost did ..80% of the days I must have shot two shifts!

Raj: See we didn’t know at that time. See when IPKKND came to an end we didn’t know that you were actually working behind the scenes on this movie and that only now we get to know that you were two things at the same time!

Barun: Yeah! Yeah! I was doing this film and I was doing this show! And I did requested a leave but I didn’t get any and I understood that everyones money was on the stake so I said I will let everyone make money I will slog.

Raj: There’s a question also from PvN she wants to know that you know when you saw the trailer..sorry when you first started working on Main Aur Mr Riight is this the kind of end product that you envisaged when you first started the movie?

Barun: I didn’t get it….what?

Raj: I said like the end product of the movie that you see now…is that exactly what you envisaged when you first started working on the movie?

Barun: Envisioned you mean? No! Not really actually. You were just saying that the trailer looks very young and very good young feel to it. Actually that’s because the director is very young. The guy who has directed the film is 24 years old. So he was 23 at that time when we were filming. So the whole vanity and youth exuberance comes from him, his point of view. I did not at all envisioned it to be as good as it came out.

Raj: Right! Okay! There’s a question from Indy and Indy is asking that are you as excited as we are to see you on the big screen?

Barun: I am anxious I will say that same thing.

Raj: Are you excited?

Barun: I am anxious! What excites me is work. So when I went to shoot I was very excited at that time now I’m anxious!

Raj: Okay! And you must be seeing a lot of the trailers. I mean I am seeing ..I saw the trailer of the film on tv as well and also seeing the song as well that is being released today. Yaar bina chain kaha re. That to see on television when you are doing your normal kind of routine ..it must be kind of a feel good factor to see that.

Barun: It is! It Is! Yeah I mean ..yeah yeah it is good…the good thing is…the very good thing actually is that everyone loved the promo so there was…it kind of makes it hard when people don’t like what you put your hard work into. So yeah it feels good watching it. I mean I have seen it on the net a few times. My wife’s seen a lot of times…so yeah there has been a lot of promo and song that I have come across yeah!

Raj: Okay! And the fanclub Team Barun is also asking is there a particular moment or scene in the film that you are particularly kinda proud about?

Barun: See the point is that when I did the show IPKKND everyone was like this guys is 10 on 10 in this type of a character and I didn’t want to be typecast as.. I didn’t wanna pick up on what my strength was and carry on only with that all my life I wanted to …that’s not the kind of person I am. In real life to I would just take on with just my strength…I am the kind of person who would take a risk. So the whole part where I sport the wig I liked that. That’s the long hair is what I mean. I really liked that part because it’s come out well and in fact I showed courage as and actor who does not care about vanity much but the character so those portions let’s say.

Raj: Okay…AquaGirl wants to know is there any English movies that you would like to be in the remake of?

Barun: Millions man!

Raj: Any particular?

Barun: Millions! Of late Captain Phillips

Raj: Which one sorry?

Barun: Captain Phillips

Raj: Captain…Oh right! Okay! There’s Dhristi want to ask that would you some day would like to venture into directing? Maybe behind the camera?

Barun: Absolutely! This girl knows me very well. Yeah!

Raj: Dipti Rai asking that you are going to be back on screen after two years ..we have kinda been through this already about you feeling nervous, excited….you are feeling anxious!

Raj: Sultana Rafiq wants to know which emotion is hardest to act; anger, sadness or comedy?

Barun: Comedy!!! By far!

Raj: Comedy! Oh ho!

Barun: Comedy is very difficult to do ..I mean… See because comedy has to evoke laughter! Otherwise it’s no use. If you are angry or if you are crying in a scene …if someone does not wanna cry along with you or if there’s someone not feeling scared because of the anger it’s okay. But if you crack a joke no one laughs then that’s a problem. So that’s why comedy is the most difficult!

Raj: It is so true! Nidhi Verma wants to ask which cartoon character do you most resemble?

Barun: Which cartoon character do I resemble? I wore…Okay I don’t know ..I am a pretty real life person…But I would like to say Jerry..I really like Jerry out of Tom and Jerry.

Raj: Okay let’s leave it like that. Okay Nitin Sairudra wants to know who would you like to pick to play yourself in your biopic. If someone was to make a film on you who would you choose?

Barun: Woohoohoo! Why can’t I do it?

Raj: You? Can’t we get someone else to do it? Who would you choose?

Barun: Okay I’d probably see If I am writing or directing it I would probably have one of my friends do it

Raj: One of your friends…Okay.

Barun: Yeah! Yeah!

Raj: By the way Barun you’re on twitter now as well.

Barun: Yes I am yes I am!

Raj: Barun so you finally on twitter! How does it feel and how is your phone going? I am sure your phone must be buzzing every few seconds

Barun: Yeah but I have disabled the email on my phone because it kept buzzing. So but yeah it’s a …still getting used to it. But it’s nice. See I thought that everyone is telling me to interact more than I am and stuff of that sort so I think it’s gonna be teenage again all over for me so I think I will start doing more on twitter.

Raj: Okay there’s a question also…actually did you find Twitter alright. Did you get a lot of practice? Did you had to get kinda get some help from people

Barun: Not much not much right now. I am a little challenged in that ways but I am bright person so I will probably catch up sooner.

Raj: Good! Good! Affy wants to ask you if you have singed any other new films or any other new projects in the pipeline?

Barun: I don’t know if anyone knows but I have one on the list that’s coming out early next year.. and then there’s another one which I am working on based on cricket. And that’s about it right now. Waiting for this one to come out so I get better options

Raj: Okay so that’s the one you are talking about is John Abraham’s one yeah?

Barun: Right yeah yeah!

Raj: Satra Ko Shaadi Hai

Barun: I mean that’s early next year yeah!

Raj: Early next year…there’s a question actually that Tia wants to ask you about that. Do you understand by what John meant by Sobtians being the best fan group and if could describe your fans in one word one sentence what would that be?

Barun: I didn’t get it? If…what would I have to describe?

Raj: If you described your fans in one word how would you describe them?

Barun: Oh…Loyal!

Raj: Loyal yeah?

Barun: Yeah! Yeah!

Raj: There’s a question also from Moumita she wants to ask you what’s your favourite song of 2014? So far?

Barun: My favourite what?

Raj: Your favourite song

Barun: Song!!! So far? So I can’t say anything from my film?

Raj: Okay beside that? That’s cheating!

Barun: Okay..I love that song from Humpy Sharma Ki Dulhaniya…Samjhawan

Raj: Samjhawan? Okay… Naeha wants to know what would be your secret alias…as in what would your name be if you were to choose a different name for yourself away from Barun Sobti, what name would you choose?

Barun: I really like Samar .. S…a…m…a…r

Raj: Samar! Okay…and Nishaa wants to know do you feel the pressure to succeed when you face…ok hang on this question we’ll leave. There’s a question here from Saloni who wants to know what’s the best compliment you have received since the trailer of your film has been out?

Barun: Everyones that said I come across as a very strong actor in that trailer so yeah every one ..almost everyone has said that.

Raj: Okay Seethi wants to know that you play a big fan of Salman Khan in the film but which is your favourite Salman Khan film?

Barun: Mine?

Raj: Which is your fav Salman Khan movie?

Barun: This will be very cheesy but I have to say Maine Pyar Kiya

Raj: Maine Pyar Kiya! What a movie! And there’s also questions about Main Aur Mr Riight. Is that gonna get a world wide release? Or is it just gonna be in India?

Barun: Not right…Not on the 12th of Dec but that’s India 12th of Dec then sometime after that there’s gonna be a release worldwide.

Raj: Okay! Barun you know what..It has been pleasure talking to you. You have gotta say one final message to all your fans out there…One quick message that you wanna say and convey to all your loved ones out there.

Barun: Yeah! I would like to say that if anyone wants more of me to be around just wait for the film to come out and don’t see it on the internet or anything or that sort. Wait for it to be released over there and then go watch it on the big screen. And just want say that it is nice to have people wait for your work. So thanks!

Raj: Awww! Btw Anu wanted to know because she said you are looking very fit and fine and she is saying have you been working out recently and are you spending more time at the gym?

Barun: Errr yeah but it’s actually I have worked out all my life. Probably what people mean is that I am more bigger these days so that’s because I am not playing football and stuff and yeah I am doing weights and stuff so probably that’s why. And everyone been telling me that so okay that’s probably people took it bigger than leaner.

Raj; Okay! Btw you gotta say I Lauuu you! Like you do in the movie Main Aur Mr Riight. So can you just say I Lauu you!

Barun: I Lauuu you !!

Raj: Love it!! Barun it’s been a pleasure. By the way just wanna say hello from Sanah,
Gurusha, Ashita, Affy, Mel and Anu! All of them saying a massive massive hi to you. And also Lamia, they all saying a massive hi to you.

Barun: Give them a big hello!

Raj: There you go! Barun Keep in touch! Best of luck with the movie and I’ll catch up with you soon. Alright!

Barun: Same to you man. Thanks!

Raj: Okay

Barun: Good Luck is what I meant!

Raj: Thank you so much and I am gonna play you this song from Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya..Samjhawan here on Sabras Radio.

Barun: Thank you!

Raj: There you go! That was Barun Sobti here live on Sabras Radio!
