CECI Interview - Jonghyun

CECI: The response for "Jonghyun's Blue Night" is really good.
Jonghyun: It feels good that I can listen to people's stories on their lives through this radio. I feel warm with each of them sharing the kind of thoughts and emotions they are living with. It's filled with sentiments because it's at midnight.

CECI: You must have learnt a lot from being a DJ
Jonghyun: The biggest thing I learnt is to be considerate to others. As a DJ, I have to take care of the listeners and the guests. Because most of them are more senior than me, I learnt a lot about life. Thankfully as I introduce various music, I'm happy that I also get to listen to a lot of songs.

CECI: Personally, I like the song "Gloomy Clock", the song you composed, that is on IU's 3rd album but you only participated as a lyricist for SHINee's albums. I'm saying that you could bring out more passion
Jonghyun: I still don't think I can be credited as SHINee's composer. (CECI: Why?) Because I'm a SHINee member, how can I think of completing a song and include in the album without caring? (laughs) More than that, it has to effective to draw out SHINee's concept and become a song that the whole world can accept. And the music I seek for is different from SHINee's.

CECI: Personally, the kind of music you want to attempt?
Jonghyun: I have interest in music collaborations. When I'm writing a song, I decide earlier on who would sing it better and work (on it). For example, after deciding that for this song "it would be good if EXO sings it", because I write the songs that embodies an image, the process is fun. With that sort of anticipating song, it's more plentiful and more pleasurable when completed with the exact color. Whenever I have time, I'm working with people I have personal ties with. Even if it's not my own album, I feel like I might be able to offer songs of various manner.

CECI: I saw an interview about your future plans as a vocal director. Is your dream still the same?
Jonghyun: It's a part that I have a lot of interest in since my trainee days. I have a lot of curiosity about the theoretical approach of bringing out voices from the vocal cords. Everyone's voices are different depending on each of their vocal cords appearance. Even though the breathing and vocalization methods are different from each other, there are common traits too. If were to go in detail, the vocalization for pop songs and vocal music are different. Even with pop songs, there are friends who sings dance music and ballads and their voice methods are different. It's new as I go on learning. Rather than teaching someone a long time ago, it's a lesson that I felt while practicing together. There was a lot that I learnt as I taught. That's why for my progress, I'm putting in more effort.

CECI: If you met yourself from 10 years in the future, what kind of conversation would you like to have?
Jonghyun: If it's 10 years later then I'll be 35 years old. you still can't get married, right? No, I don't know if you can do it (laughs) That time, I want to ask if you're healthy. Because lately, I keep thinking that I must take care of my health.

CECI: To the SHINee members?
Jonghyun: It's the same to the members. Their body and heart should be healthy, and because they can live (on) as they do well.
