Okay, heard back from ZatchHunter. If you've already patched SSB for 3DS to 1.0.4, where the Supersize Glitch is fixed, you CAN 'downgrade' to the very first version of the game which still has the glitch.

Simply delete the patch data by going to System Settings, then Data Management, then 3DS, and then Downloadable Content, which is where all update and DLC data for your 3DS games are stored. Delete the patch data from there.

When you start SSB for 3DS again, it will say the patch data is missing but ask if you want to play the game anyway. Say yes, and the game will start, complete with Supersize Glitch. You can always redownload the patch from the eShop when it becomes absolutely necessary, such as for playing online.

BTW, if you have a spare SD card laying around, then just insert that card and play SSB that way. With this method, you don't have to worry about deleting the patch and then redownloading it when you're done. No matter how you choose to get around the patch, it is not possible to play SSB without an SD card inserted. The game will not start without one.

However, keep in mind that your save data will be reset UNTIL THE PATCH DATA IS RESTORED.
