Seriously though, Youtubers have it good in comparison to traditional games media sites because the nature of the platform allows us to cultivate very committed audiences that are willing to wait for content.

Traditional sites often rely on the surge of traffic they get from publishing their review as early as possible, compounding by being first to the punch on Metacritic. Being late is crippling to many sites. While I certainly get a boost in views if I'm early with my videos, I have a really high floor where even if I'm super late, I will still get really good view counts. Myself and Angry Joe enjoy a very fortunate position in that regard, we have committed viewerbases who are willing to wait for what we have to say. Example, my Borderlands the Presequel video was over two weeks late. It still got over 400,000 views (and on Youtube, that pays pretty well).

While we are very respectful of press embargoes set by publishers and enjoy a solid professional relationship with almost all of them, we're not in a position where we fear for our careers if we draw the wrath of major publishers. If we're blacklisted, we will just buy on release. We don't need their exclusives. We don't need their early coverage or their press events, we are successfully independent.
