Football League Complaint

I have always watched the Football League Show since it started, being a Middlesbrough fan it gave me the opportunity to watch the highlights of our games.

Since this season we have been progressing well and winning games this has meant we have been getting slightly more coverage on the show. Now most Championship team fans would think this was great if it was their team, not us Boro fans!

There have been some terrible mistakes made and broadcast that have shown that clearly the show does very little research outside of it's favorite teams. The first, was a few weeks back on the 5/10/2014 show. The Middlesbrough game highlights were shown, we had just beaten Fulham 2-0 and had played some good football.

Cut to the studio where Manish and Leroy are going to break down our game and get into the finer points of what had just been show. Well that's what we were all expecting, what we got was Leroy who say's "they were without Woodgate today as well" and he went on to further elaborate how great we had coped without Woodgate in the back four for this one game.

Now this is true Woodgate hadn't played during the game, but the fact is he hadn't played all season not even one minute of football league football it kind of made this discussion pointless. Yet the show went on to discuss in some detail how we played well in this one game without him and how our future looked. There were plenty of other talking points they could have picked up on, but sadly this was what they wasted the very limited time we get during the show on.

Now we don't expect much from the show but could the researchers not get Leroy a better discussion point than that? Could Leroy not have looked up a basic stats sheet for the team that showed this seasons appearances? Could nobody have gone to www.mfc.co.uk or checked the stats with the club? It seems even the basic research into team isn't getting done.

Now although I wasn't too impressed, I stuck with the show and there were not further Middlesbrough related mistakes that was until last nights show (we went two mistake free weeks, it was all going so well!)

Middlesbrough versus Watford. It was a big game (or so we thought) second in the league versus third, both teams had been in decent form. The highlights start and the end to end coverage only lasted for 55 seconds and what a 55 seconds it was!

Not only did the "highlights" show that it was all Watford when in fact both teams had their spells (I can let this slide as you may have been tight for time). There was a chance created that would have allowed Bamford to score the winner for us. Now he ultimately missed the opportunity and so he may have been thankful for what was about to happen in the coverage especially if his parent club Chelsea were watching the show.

The commentator mistook striker Patrick Bamford (Chelsea loanee) for Curtis Main, again people might say mistakes happen both are young lads. I get that but Curtis Main was sold in the summer, he wasn't part of the Middlesbrough Club anymore. He had moved on to Doncaster and had even been scoring for them.

All I can say is it would have been some goal to score all the way from the Keepmoat to the Riverside Stadium and had he scored it would have been the greatest goal ever, never mind of the season (a distance of 87.5 miles would have been covered on the goal).

So all we ask from the BBC Football league show is to invest in some better researchers and that if you are unsure of players or it is too hard to get these things right before the show airs then please don't embarrass yourself by showing the coverage, for every Boro fans sake just cut the highlight and we will no longer tune in. You could even just show the highlights with no commentary or discussion that would be better than what we are getting now.

If you are really stuck then get in touch and we can advise you of any Middlesbrough related information you should require for the show.
