Sexual harassment in post-op at Dar Fouad hospital #Egypt #Cairo

Every day, I try to tweet something positive about Egypt, and other MENA countries as well as sharing negative news. There is plenty of negative news, and some people remember when it used to be illegal to write or take photographs which "cast Egypt in a negative light." Honestly, given the prevalence of sexual harassment, if the "negative view" is not shared, it cannot be corrected.

Last night I saw this complaint from Nina Wessel - have you seen it?

Nina Wessel:

"6 weeks ago I had surgery at Dar el Fouad hospital. There were no problems with the surgery, but as some of you know I got harassed by one of the nurses in post op. I was in the post anesthetic ward, straight out of surgery, full of needles and trapped on a bed, and this nurse, Hamed el Sayed, starts harassing me, hanging over my bed. It was truly a -you got to be fucking kidding?!- moment. I asked him several times to step away, and he refused, so in the end I had to scream at him. He stepped back for 30 seconds, then came back, while at the same time telling every one in sight how I was "angry with him". Basically acting like a disrespectful child. None of the other nurses in the room intervened. I had to call one of the doctors to get el Sayed away from me. The doctor came and waved him away, but did not reprimand him, and he kept hovering around me. It was horrible, I was lying there on the bed, unable to move, accosted by this creep.

With the help of a friend of mine, I kicked up a shit storm the next day, and found out that this same nurse had also felt up another patient, so it is not the first time.

I wrote an official complaint to the General Manager, Hesham el Kholy, the CEO and the Chairman of the Board. I did that instead of reporting el Sayed to the police, which I should have. But I was under the delusion that somehow the Dar el Fouad boys club would take a complaint seriously. duh. The General Manager had the audacity to say that he had "conducted an investigation" and "concluded that there was no harassment". Basically saying I was lying. And that was it. I have left it 6 weeks for them to deal with, but found out yesterday that no one will take action so I am doing the mature thing and complaining on social media.

If you are a woman, do not go to Dar el Fouad. It doesn't help if you bring your whole family with you, because this happened to me straight out of surgery, where visitors are not allowed. The management of Dar el Fouad is a disgrace."
