KH on Detroit Sports 105.1 FM more or less.

KH says that he and Babs are both W. Canadians, going out to lunch w/ wives, do they agree on everything? No, but that's healthy, both are stubborn, have things they believe in, most of the time they work things out in private, sometimes it becomes public, but he enjoys working with Babs says he's a big part of their success.

He says that he hopes that Babcock will return though he can't read the tea leaves, he believes that Babs will be a Wing in the future.

Asked about Xavier Ouellet, says that the Wings need 8 defensemen and 15-16 forwards over 82 games, because they haven't played games yet there are lots of people paying attention to roster but everyone will get a chance to play though he believes that Ouellet "may have played better" in the preseason than some of the Wings' current roster players.

He's asked about roster turnover and the "Kids aren't the answer" comment from last year, he says Wings need a steady inflow of players, trying to be playoff team for 24th year but Wings want to bring in players who make them better short-term and long-term, help them win playoff series over the long haul, says that the Wings are rebuilding/reloading, suggests that Nyquist/Sheahan/Jurco are "23-24-year-old kids."

Holland says that Nestrasil is Wings' 3rd round pick, was in Toledo last year on fringes of AHL roster, benefit of injuries is that Glendening, Sheahan, Jurco recalls = Nestrasil got a chance to play regularly in AHL and had a point per game in last 20 games + playoffs, Babs texted, told Nesty may play some games for them, he lost 10 pounds, got fit, he's got skill and hands, foot speed has been a bit of an issue but has worked on conditioning, is better-conditioned and is fitter.

Asked about Weiss, says he doesn't think anything about it, Wings dressing 20 players best for tonight, all players on roster will play over 82 games, he says Wings hope that after 2 years of missing games due to wrist surgery and groin issues, on one hand disappointment, on other hand kids' push is healthy and younger players are pushing for jobs so message for Babcock is that he wants to win tonight, KH makes decisions on 23-man roster, he talks to Mike and other people, once that roster is in place that's MIke's to manage, he can use/dress/combine players he wants to use/sees fit, after game Babs will hear KH's thoughts on roster going into Anaheim but Babs can use or not use KH's take as he wishes...

Babs' job is to put the best 20 players on the ice every night.

He's asked how excited he is about opening night/his team, says that he's really excited, always excited at this time of year, reason for optimism is adversity and injuries last year w/ 6-7-8 players gone = Tatar, Jurco, Sheahan, DeKeyser Glendening learning, Z is healthy after 8 month absence, will take time for him to ramp up, having him, healthy Helm, healthy Franzen, hopes that mix of vets and youth will make team deeper and better.

Final question asked about Franzen, not sure what "the Mule of old" is, had 41 points in 56 games, was on pace for 60 points last year, not many do that, 13 players averaged over a point per game, hard league to get points in, looks at Mule as one of several players to get 20+ goals, hopefully #13, #14, #40, #21/6 #15 do so, he's a big body with skill and that's hard to find.
