my #exapicopassion entry!

NOTE: Hey there, sorry for sending this so, so late. I was wrestling with myself whether to send it or not. Because it is embarrassing to me sending something so candid and unrefined.
So if you do decide on someone else over my tardiness, then I’ll understand. I was just debating and wrestling with myself over if this would be good enough or not. But might as well.

Just…uhm don’t make fun of my entry. Not that you’d want to, but just in case. I just wanted to do my own little tribute even though these songs are extremely hard to harmonize. And it’s only just a little bit. Based KOKIA is a soprano and extremely out of my range but...bleh.

DON’T LAUGH. Well if you do laugh, no need to tell me D;

NOW FOR THE WRITTEN PART :>

My involvement with Ar Tonelico started years ago, actually. I am very into music and that’s what eventually led me to the whole thing.

But here’s the thing. Ar Tonelico goes beyond just giving us pretty music. It gives music with meaning. With purpose. It gives us the depths of an individual’s mind and takes us to the nitty gritty—without barring anything.

I was taken aback with Luca and how she was devious, manipulative and utterly contemptible. And yet, she was shown as human and worthy of love. How Cloche was more than just a privileged girl with a temper.

And that stayed with me. So when Knell of Ar Ciel finally came around, I made no repair in saving up for it and getting it.

Beyond just girls stripping down and singing, again we’re presented with meaning. We’re shown that the surface is only the beginning.

I have to admit, I didn’t understand how singing could save the world. So I spent hours reading the wiki and any material that could shed some light. It didn’t completely line up for me until I was hit with it in my eardrums and I understood what these songs represented.

And I want to start with these two, because I feel that they symbolize Saki and Finnel well.

Saki is very idealistic in that she’s very much the protector-straight-forward-waifu material girl. She’s often seen as naïve and innocent. But there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Her resolve is born out of caring and love. Even if that means sacrifice.

Finnel honest to god hits me so personally, and in the overall, I resonate with her on a personal level so much. Because she’s so hurt by everything and is a rather frail girl. She bottles everything inside—all the abuse, all the reluctance she has to do evil things. Out of everyone in Ar Tonelico 3, I feel that she’s the one who needs the most love.

And now, I move to less personal things and more back to songs with meaning. What gives a song meaning? In Ar Tonelico, besides the technological implications—it’s the feelings. And the composers in this case put so much feeling into this particular song that when I first heard it, I was so taken aback.

The instrumentation, the voice. Oh god the voice with her octaves and harmonies. I am a bit of a geek with music so when I heard THIS one song I was so filled with glee and started crying (derp)

I love this song so much, you have no idea!

I find these songs have power. Not just in-game. But they effective transmit feelings to those playing. Even doubly so when you see the lyrics and how they are pleads and begs for the world to change and be reborn.

Be it songs like COSMOFLIPS or METHOD_HYMMELI/. They wish for a new world where they can live and thrive. I don’t particularly understand why that reaches me the way it does. But these songs carry power behind them.

Songs are powerful, and Ar Tonelico makes this known through its masterfully crafted pieces.
