@sstarkm @patrickklepek I disagree. The pursuit of objectivity is paramount, it represents accuracy. All good subjective reviews should have a solid basis in objective fact. While the purely personal is an extremely important part of the reviewing process, attempting to detach yourself and look at it from different points of view is also a vital component. No purely objective review exists, but neither should a purely subjective review. A deep understanding of the game mechanics, which would be an objective thing can lead to the most interesting of subjective opinions. A failure to adhere to objectivity can lead to a poor understanding of the facts which in turn leads to undue bias. Bias is useful, as long as it is disclosed. It's a vital part of reviewing in fact if you believe in the byline above all. But that bias must come from a place of objectivity and accurate representation of the facts. Lastly it simply comes down to trying to understand other peoples points of view and perspectives. I will strive for objectivity if I review platformer even though I hate most of them, for the benefit of those that do like them, but I will also explain why I personally dislike elements of it, while qualifying that opinion by admitting my own bias along the way. The end goal is to try and recognise greatness in game design even if you don't personally enjoy the mechanics and the genre. That to me is what objectivity in reviewing is.
