Int’l Peace Day: WEP, NSCDC, UNDP Call For Ceasefire


As the International Day of Peace is being celebrated, major stakeholders in the Country, tasked with the mandate of ensuring maximum peace and eschewing the acts of violence in Nigeria have called on insurgents and perpetrators of other economic crime to build democracy and implement cease fire.

The stakeholders, Women Environmental Programme (WEP), Niger Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which worked under a consensus to mark the day said, the decision to mark the day was taken in view of the appeal by Civil society groups, women group among others, in honor of the adopted Chibok girls.

The Chief of Army staff. LT General Kenneth Tobiah Minimah in his speech noted that the much seeked peace can only be achieved through maximum understanding , adding that all stakeholders must not support opportunists and anarchists but play role in strengthening democracy for the future of Nigeria

The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof Ade Abolurin, said his agency believes that in the interests of world peace and for the sake of future generations, the International Day of Peace should be an opportunity for peace loving people particularly, world leaders to plunge into deep thinking in order to establish more just international economic relations and curb greed, selfishness and corruption among others.
