My Issue with Girl Meets World @GMWWriters

@GMWWriters I am writing to you today to comment on an aspect of Girl Meets World that leaves me scratching my head and frustrated. I have been a fan of BMW since I was young so, naturally, I would move over to GMW to see how it would do. I find the show enjoyable and like seeing the modern situations and problems that kids can relate to and learn lessons from.

That being said my big issue with GMW is how the kids treat Cory as a teacher. Riley, Maya, Lucas, and Farkle can interrupt Cory as much as they want, not listen to him, treat him with basic disrespect as much as they want and he does nothing about it. Why? Why is that? He lets twelve year olds walk all over him. They leave school whenever they want, as seen in the recent episode "Girl Meets Crazy Hat." No child can ever just walk out of school and come back without there being repercussions. But are there any? No. Why? Because Riley is Cory's daughter? Because they have a certain special privilege that lets them get away with anything?

That is highly unrealistic and not fair to who I think Cory is. His successor, Mr. Feeny, would not and did not let anyone walk over him. If he felt his class was being interrupted he shut down the interruptions and took ahold of the class. Mr. Turner, while he did have Cory and Shawn to go against while he was teaching and, in a few instances, had problems with said two disrupting the class, he still had control over them. He still got them to work with him and teach them lessons.

Cory just lets the kids disrespect him, talk over him, make the class about them, interrupt other students' learning...why? Just because they are the main characters? I understand their lives are set in school and most of their lessons are learned there so most of their dialogue, characterization, and plots reside there. But being his daughter, his daughter's best friend, and his daughter's classmates does not, in my opinion, give them the right to be so rude to Cory and his teaching. It makes them come across as self-centered and, I fear, lets children know that in the real world they can act the same way without punishments.

I am a fan of the show. I am a fan of the life lessons that you bring to a new generation week to week through Cory and Topanga and those that they are close to. But I do not agree with the way you write Cory and Riley in the classroom and I hope that this note helps you understand where I am coming from and takes this into consideration.

Thank you for your time.
