Personal: Albert & Earla's 24th Wedding Anniversary

Looking back 24 years ago, I can't believe, Albert (@AlbertRiopel) & I (@EarlaRiopel) are celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary! It feels like it was just few years ago.

Albert and I haven't changed much, probably just our physical appearances, but our heart still the same. We still love each other very much. Love to spend time with each other when we can.

When the children (ages: 22, 21 and 15) became mostly independent, it gives us time for ourselves, spends more time with each other and for the things that we mostly enjoyed (our hobbies).

What's the secret of keeping the marriage longer? I can think of a few, but the most important thing is "commitment". How committed we are with each other. Not so much of being insanely in-love with each other, but it's the commitment to make the marriage work.

To be able to make a marriage work, it takes a few sacrifices, especially taking care of the children. As to family finances, it helps if we don't go beyond our means, always strive to invest extra for our retirement and have a little emergency funds for sudden unexpected expenses. Most of all, 'not keeping up with the Joneses'. It feels like a recipe for financial or even a relationship disaster.

Having that commitment makes the marriage, raising kids and holding the family together work. But then, once the children are mostly grown-up, the only two things that hold a marriage are: trust and love.

Leaving you with a Bible verse that keeps us in love as always:

"Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love" ~
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)

Until next writing...
