Writing meme thing from Lily

So I did this writing meme thing that I got from Lily (http://rointheta.tumblr.com/post/94819500741/40-questions-meme-for-fic-writers). :D Some of the points have been answered in this writing process thing I did before (http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1s21lip), but I thought I'd do it again so :D

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.
- Media agency AU where the character goes through a lot of struggles involving work and other aspects of life. :D Lots of cars, alcohol, and name-dropping of musicians because my love for music is crazy. Lots of Pokemon references, lots of UST, but an eventual happy ending. I love using tension as a way of building a relationship.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
- Oh man. Probably the accidentally married trope? It seems interesting when I read about it in fics, but I have no idea how to pull it off.

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
- MPREG. I just can't.

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
- According to my list, 18. HAHA. There's a ChanKai basketball AU thing brewing in my mind right now. Basically Chanyeol takes a break from basketball (receives treatment somewhere else) because of an injury and returns to the team a year after, only to find out that he's been replaced by some 'genius' rookie by the name of Kim Jongin.

5. Share one of your strengths.
- Developing unresolved sexual tension? Haha! I love describing the push and pull relationship of a couple, romantic or not, and how they try to work out their differences. TENSION IS FUN TO WRITE so much fun, istg. Using supposedly 'normal' gestures that are juuust a bit more intimate than the usual as cues is my favorite, and I guess I use those effectively. :)

6. Share one of your weaknesses.
- DIALOGUE AND HUMOR. I try to make dialogue as spontaneous-sounding as possible but sometimes it's just hard to "get into the language" of the character you're writing? As for humor– that's a lost cause. My humor's so dry, I can sustain an entire field of cacti with it.

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
- "He's always half of something — half fearless, half uncertain; halfway through working on some new tracks for the repackage album and halfway through working on some new material for a potential hit single; half of who he is and who he should be — pure, unadulterated Do Kyungsoo, not EXO's Kyungsoo with a touch of Byun Baekhyun on the side." (from Hurricanes Brought Us Here - http://onyu.livejournal.com/13626.html)

I love this part because it shows Kyungsoo's quiet struggle and his conflict, and then you also have the handle of the fic there – EXO disbanding and Kyungsoo going solo. There's even a hint of hesitation in the tone? Yeah. I just really love this bit. :)

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
- The entire confrontation scene in "Please please please let me get what I want" (http://onyu.livejournal.com/16038.html), specifically "So I think… maybe… maybe I should do something. For the sake of the plot." You have Joonmyun trying to confess but not really because he's a loser and he hasn't fully figured things out yet? So he decides to go what he knows best – coursing his emotions through writing. :D

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?
- "Leave the light on" (http://onyu.livejournal.com/19041.html). The super duper muted emotions made it so hard to write since my style is so damn emotional. AUs as complex as it have always been a challenge for me. ;~~;

10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?
- Something for an exchange. That I can't talk about right now. Haha! Among those that I've already posted, possible "Unforced Errors" because I grew up with tennis so digesting the tennis terms and the dynamics of the game wasn't so hard. Translating them into fic was really enjoyable, too.

11. Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?
- A bit of both, but more of my passion. Writing gets me through really stressful days and is the only thing that can make me feel better after a really draining day at work, so I make it a point to write everyday, as much as I can.

12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
- If you mean is there something that inspires me a bit more than the others, it's definitely music. Music is such a HUGE factor in my writing, in that there are times when I legit can't finish a fic without finding The Theme Song of the fic. It's pretty lame, I'm sorry. :))

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
- Dissect emotions and use everyday actions/cues to communicate them. :)

14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
- That every long fic needs to have porn. :)) LOL SORRY if it won't fit the plot then I won't make them bang each other.

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
- "Unforced Errors", definitely. Just imagine Kyungsoo as a tennis expert and him playing doubles with Baekhyun. AAAAAA.

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?
- Baekhyun/Kyungsoo, now and forever. :)

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
- Start to finish, definitely, although I do note down scenes that pop up in my mind in the middle of writing. I use sticky notes for those! :D

18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?
- I'm a shitty outliner, ngl, but I do use a lot of sticky notes to "plan" my fics. It helps organize my thoughts, I guess.

19. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?
- My writing muse is that unassuming guy in a coffee shop whose round-rimmed glasses slip down the bridge of his nose every so often. He orders mocha regularly (that asshole) and gets whipped cream on his top lip, and it sort of amuses him every time it happens. He's crazy. But cute. And he won't mind drinking a stronger coffee blend from time to time.

20. Describe your perfect writing conditions.
- Gentle rain outside the window, a cup of coffee on my left, my notebook on my right. Laptop right in front of me with Snow Patrol, Coldplay, or Ed Sheeran playing in the background. No noises, just music and the thrum of the computer engine.

21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
- OH MAN. I go through two revisions, at the very least. I sometimes rewrite my fic twice until I'm satisfied with it.

22. Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style. (Person sending the ask is free to make suggestions).
- "The past few weeks have been filled with nothing but attempts at trying to get to know Lu Han more, and headaches that sometimes last only a few seconds but often last long enough for him to push himself away from his table so he could take a quick nap. "It's probably just my eyes; I haven't had them checked in years, but every time I get these headaches, I hear voices in my head."" (from Color Theory - http://onyu.livejournal.com/2181.html)

He tries to discover something new about Lu Han everyday – what his favorite color is, his favorite food, his quirks, little things about him that pique Jongin's interest all the more. He plough through the routine with a pounding headache, eased only by Lu Han's voice, his smile, his laughter.

23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?
- Again, "Color Theory". I think it's nice but I could've done better? Fleshed out the world more and such.

24. Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?
- Nope, never. I'm pretty happy with most things that I've written. :)

25. What do you look for in a beta?
- Someone who's willing to be completely honest with me when it comes to the flaws of my writing, but someone who keeps an open mind when I try to shoot down her suggestions. I get fiercely protective of my fics sometimes, but a good beta should be able to work around that, um, protective streak. ;~~;

26. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?
- Yup. I'm a strict beta when it comes to my own fics. I debunk the shit out of weak points and remind myself again and again of the things I have to improve on. When betaing other people's works, though, I ask them first what kind of betaing style they'd want to see and work with that. I go with suggestions more than corrections because I know how painful it can be to see someone point out the flaws in your fic. ;~~;

27. How do you feel about collaborations?
- I think they're fun but the logistics of it can be hard to work with!

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
- unlearned, colorfunk, and warmboys. <3 I love how simple their prose is, how they use short sentences to effectively communicate emotions. And the day-to-day action emotion cues? THEY DO THAT SO WELL, OMG. Their writing style is a wonderful balance of poetry and prose, and the sentences just have this rhythm that makes reading their fics such a wonderful journey. :)

29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
- Oh man, idk. I'd like to explore a continuation of colorfunk's "Tin Can Telephones", I guess? SORRY LILY I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF BAEKSOO ;~~;

30. Do you accept prompts?
- YES YES EYS :D

31. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
- Well, we don't really know what's truly canon so I tend to not be super strict about it. I'm very particular with characterization, though, and I hate it when boys are characterized as the "stereotypical uke".

32. How do you feel about smut?
- Smut is good. Smut is great. Smut + plot = the best.

33. How do you feel about crack?
- I FEEL IT, I JUST DO. It's a fun, breezy read!

34. What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?
- Both make me so uncomfortable tbh? I try to stay away from them as much as possible.

35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?
- SNORTS see "Color Theory" where 5/7 characters died. :)) I think killing off characters isn't bad as long as the plot calls for it.

36. Which is your favorite site to post fic?
- Livejournal because that's where I've been posting since… idk, 2003? A03 is also great because it's so easy to post longfic there. :D

37. Talk about your current wips.
- Reeza's death. Period. :)) Uuuh basically I'm working on /something/ that touches on a type of AU that I'm really passionate about. It's a challenge because I'm writing a pair that I've always had a hard time writing (because they're just so hard to write), but I'm really having fun with this particular fic project. :D

38. Talk about a review that made your day.
- A recent comment posted on one of my fics. :)) I was really, really touched when the person mentioned that she liked the non-romantic aspect of the fic, like friendship development and the characters triumphing over real struggles? Also, ALL OF SHERYL'S COMMENTS ISTG.

39. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
- Hmm I wouldn't consider them rude. I mean, that's their opinion; I can't force them to like my fic. Some have wondered why I killed off x person or did so and so, but I usually just PM them if they have other concerns and explain my side. If they don't listen, then okay. I can't do anything about that.

40. Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one).
- Not an alternate ending, but a continuation of "Please please please let me get what I want"

"You just love making my life a living hell, don't you?" Kyungsoo asks, jabbing Lu Han's chest lightly.

Lu Han makes no effort to fight back, just leans closer until their foreheads touch and until they're nose-to-nose and he can feel the warm tingle of Kyungsoo's breath on his skin. "Hmm, maybe I just–" And then Kyungsoo's kissing him, licking the back of his teeth, sucking on his bottom mouth, the rest of Lu Han's answer swallowed by the open press of Kyungsoo's mouth.
