TLDR on Latest MC Drama

Evil Seph said goodbye to Bukkit in a long post claiming the Eula clarification from a while back plus the 1.8 changes were too much:

The community freaked out.

"Zomg how could Mojang let Bukkit die."

4 minutes and countless panicked Minecrafter later @jeb_ tweeted saying "Mojang has owned Bukkit for 2 years, you can quite if you are bored, but you can't kill our project.

and that because it belonged to Mojang Bukkit didn't fall under the EULA clarification anyway a fact EvilSeph should have known.

Ten @Dinnerbone chimed in stating he started Bukkit and he would ensure it updated to 1.8 for plugin authors.

he clarified that while Mojang owns Bukkit and it will be updated it is not and will not be the API Mojang has promised us.

All in about 15 mins, Bukkit appeared to die and be resurrected. At which point the Minecraft players began crying

"How could Mojang take over a community run project" Many of them the same people crying that Mojang was forcing Bukkit to close.

EvilSeph then tweeted the equivalent of: Hahaha yeah Mojang owns it, I just forgot to mention that in my rant against the evil company. (Ok that was artistic license)

Personal Opinion time: Being mad at Mojang is silly, EvilSeph is the one that freaked everyone out by claiming to shutdown a project many community members use... that he didn't have the right to shut down. A simple "I quit Mojang can have it" would have sufficed. Less panic that way. Mojang left Bukkit in the capable hands of the community after buying it. If they had instead insited on taking over the community would have screamed bloody murder over a company taking over a community run project. However Mojang are not idiots, they got rights to Bukkit probably just in case the Bukkit devs ever got bored. They basically said, "Its yours, we'll leave you alone and let you run it your way... but if you quit.. we get to keep it."

Personally I wish more mods and plugins came with caveat that if the owner abandons them someone else gets to pick them up, whether that's Mojang, a designated sucessor or even the community at large. It would solve so many update worries.

So there you have your daily Minecraft drama dose and a side of my obnoxious opinion of the soap opera.
