Today I finally get to announce which are the next 8 theaters being explored in volume 2 of "The Untold Stories of Broadway"... This year is all about The Palace. The Barrymore. The Gershwin. The Circle in the Square. The Shubert. The Criterion Center Stage Right. The Vivian Beaumont. And The Nederlander.
Now you know... you're gonna get some never-before-heard Rent & A Chorus Line stories... everyone from Joe Mantello to Lindsay Mendez sharing the Wicked journey... my own Godspell and Macbeth tales... dozens of people reconstructing Broadway's Criterion Center Stage Right (demolished) for you through stories... memories of Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli and Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon at the Palace... what happened when women first entered the orchestra pits and the first ever BC/EFA benefit... the lady who started in the Barrymore mailroom in the 1970s and now runs the theatre (she's such a Peggy)... the guy who went from janitor at Circle in the Square to starring in the musical across the street (hint: he's one of my good pals and he gets to narrate the chapter!)... the secret tunnels of the Beaumont and the secret elevators of the Shubert and the secret stairways of the Palace and the secret rooms of the Gershwin... love for Via Galactica and Glory Days and My Favorite Year and Raggedy Ann and is there life after high school... backstage parties with Lauren Bacall and Glenn Close and Julie Andrews.... doing Rocky Horror Show on New Years Eve and doing Oklahoma! the night Richard Rodgers died...
