This was the slightly uninformative @johnlewisretail response:

Justin Laney, general manger central transport:

"John Lewis is aware of the importance of road safety for all road users and we introduced stickers to all of our vans and lorries over the past few months to help remind cyclists of the dangers of passing vehicles on the inside.

The decision was made to include the stickers on all vehicles of van size and above to help reinforce the message. Our drivers are absolutely required to drive with due care and attention and make full use of their mirrors, the stickers in no way absolves them of that responsibility. In addition to the stickers we are also trialling the use of cameras in some of our vans and lorries to help improve visibility for drivers and protect vulnerable road users.

At this time, we have no plans to change the stickers in place."
