Soldier!Sehun is sent home after straying splinters of a grenade wedge into his calf and the delayed treatment led to gangrene. Amputation is the only option if they were to stop the infection from crawling past his knee. The residing physician, Dr. Byun Baekhyun, completes the procedure successfully, which is no surprise considering his proven expertise with this specific operation. Sehun doesn't think it strange that Baekhyun should pay him a copious amount of attention - Sehun's his patient and surely he just wants to make sure Sehun's recovery is well underway. Over time, Sehun begins to harbor affections for the smart, charming and inexplicably caring doctor but he stays quiet, since he is due for discharge in two weeks. By the day of his discharge, Sehun is used to the stubby end of his right knee and thrives on crutches. He is pleasantly surprised when Baekhyun offers to drive him to his place. Neither does Sehun stop him when Baekhyun insists on coming in and helping Sehun settle in. It all makes sense, Sehun thinks, and nothing seems out of place even when Baekhyun sits down on the bed after propping Sehun up against the headboard, or when he scoots closer and eventually leans in with a chaste kiss on Sehun's lips. It doesn't hit Sehun until their clothes are shed and Baekhyun's hand trails from his hips down to his shortened extremity, an unmistakable glint of excitement in Baekhyun's eyes that are not anywhere on Sehun's body but his amputated leg.
