The Puzzle of Dreams

@SonofDari

The dreams perturbed Kizár quite a bit, both Kíli's, and her own.

Kíli's dreams had the feel of old memories, things past, things that have never happened in Kíli's life, yet memories that were rooted in his soul and belonged to him, here, in this world, not like her own dreams. She could feel in her own strange dreams a feeling of distance, of disconnect she had only felt a few times in her youth. Those times included lessons about the nature of Time and Fate, and one desperate point when she and Lossanárë put their heads together over the possibility of slipping into another world, where fate had run differently.

Within Kíli's dreams Kizár would turn and try to study Kíli closer. She could feel that there was something about him she couldn't see, like she was not seeing his face properly, even when he looked just the same as he always had. It made her wonder, what events and where could Kíli wear another face? She wished she could see those faces, maybe they would tell her more.

She also saw Kíli's face in her own dreams. There, he was, most often, older, a mature dwarrow in his prime, with more or less silver starting to streak his hair in a manner very like Thorin. In truth, age seemed to make Kíli so much like his uncle it was almost uncanny.

Kíli's dreams so far seemed to all happen amongst dwarves who considered him their lord. There were hints of a situation with a brother, and at least one memory of a fierce argument with a blond dwarf over his association with an elf, but names always seemed to go unheard, almost as if Kíli's mind did not yet want to reveal them.

Her own dreams had a number of familiar faces. Dwalin was a frequent presence, as was Brea and Bladvilla, though there were also the unknowns. An older dwarf who had a look as though he had endured years of hardship, a young dwarf who looked enough like Kíli to be family who made Kizár's heart skip, and a tall blond Man who was often at Kíli's side. There were others too who made her heart jump (though not the same way as the young dwarf), a tall Elf with red hair and no right hand, another with dark hair, just as familiar, and one less familiar in face but something told her was more important that either brother, a elfmaid with sea-blonde hair and a quiet manner.

Kizár hated how those dreams teased, and wished she knew how to find the truth in Kíli's. If she had the time to do so, she would have Kíli sit with her as she tried to touch the threads of Fate and find the truth. The truth to both their dreams, she would hope, though she does know they go in different directions. Maybe at the end, those different directions would meet up at an answer.
