Kíli

Kíli walked away from the main camp, careful to not draw attention to himself, hiding in the shadows of trees. No one took much notice of him, not with most of them staring in awe at Thorin, and his Uncle sitting down with Fíli, seeking whatever privacy, or consolation there was, without admitting it.

If he had noticed Kíli's leaving he did not care, at least there was no order to return to camp, and Kíli was glad for at least that. When he had teased Bilbo he had not thought anything by it, it was the kind of teasing and ribbing, he had grown up with. The kind of scaring others with gory tales, that he was used to from warriors since he was a child. If Thorin's words had angered him, Balin's words got to him on a deeper level even, and Kíli sought the calm, the darkness of the treeline by the ridge to calm himself.

Like so often, when upset his hand closed around a familiar obsidian stone, seeking his sister's company.

Kizár

Kizár had to admit to herself, she had been amused by the teasing, and thought Thorin was a bit too ready to reprimand, though maybe it was for the best, at least for Bilbo, who it seemed was not used to such joking. It still left her concerned, as she felt Kíli's turn in mood. Unlike Thorin's immediate words, Kíli did have experience facing orcs and Kizár knew dismissal of it was unkind of Thorin.

As Kíli's hand closes around her, Kizár leans into his mental presence, offering him warmth. "Sometimes I wonder why he feels he has to be so much more severe on you." She murmurs. "He may expect Fíli to learn how to be heir, but he comes down on you hard about more personal matters."

Kíli

Kíli opens his mind to the warm presence that is his sister. Sometimes it feels like Kizár is the closest family member he has, though he knows that this feeling is unjust towards Fíli and Thorin. "I guess I am not living up to what he expects of a nephew," he replies, trying not to sound like a whiny child but simply state a fact. "I am not like Fíli. But he does take after father..." The words bring back Balin's tale, for it also speaks of the day their father died, and the painful withdrawal of their mother into duty began. He gently hugs Kizár, letting her warmth console him. "Maybe we'll soon follow to rest under the spears." the thought is there, before he can stop it.

Kizár

"That is the last thing I want." Kizár's mental embrace tightens around him. "Call me a bit selfish about it, but I have lost too much to lose yet another brother... certainly before he's lived a long, full life." A sad tone sneaks into her voice, as memories bite at the back of her mind of Elven figures from her past. "If Thorin cannot accept that you are not Dári incarnate, like Fíli is, I would rather we headed off on our own, to find our own place."

Kíli

"I wish... maybe if we survive this madness." Kíli hugs Kizár, reminded that he is responsible for both of their lives and that means he cannot afford to accept gloomily that they will all die, because luck is a rare thing in Durin's House. He can sense Kizár's sadness, the losses she witnessed long ago, "I don't plan on dying, Stone-Sister... I don't really want to either." His eyes go to the night, the shadows beyond the hills. "The Orcs are out there, they'll come for us, sooner or later, they always do." And with them other things will come, Durin's House has a tendency to attract unwanted attention.

He takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "Maybe... maybe it I who needs to accept, Kizár. In Thorin's eyes I am too young... why should he take me serious? He could not say no to us coming with him for Fíli is his heir... and Durin's Line is expected to be brave."

Kizár

"Maybe I am biased in this, since you're my chosen brother, but I cannot help feel a wish to defend you when he gets in such critical moods." Kizár responds with a tone of thoughtfulness behind her words. "In some ways, it reminds me of Atar... He either expected too much of us, or too little and got annoyed when we did not act like stones." The thought of Thorin being similar to Fëanáro is a bit of an ironic amusement to her.

Kíli

Kíli cuddles her close, just holding her. He can sense that too many memories woke in the wake of their discussion. "I do not know if Thorin is like your father... and we better not tell him, he might take offense to be likened to an elf." There is a bit of humor in that, because a dwarrow who would not want to be likened to a great crafter, is no dwarrow at all. "I am just sorry, that it always hurts you, when I get into conflict with Thorin." It is not that Kíli does not like his Uncle. Thorin was there for them, after their father did not come back from that accused vale by the gates of Moria. And he knows Thorin loves Fíli, as much as Thorin's iron heart can still care for anyone. Kíli simply does not live to his expectations. "He means well, Kizár, he tries to do right by us, to shape us into the people he needs us to be." Kíli says, but somehow he knows he already left that path, he did so a long time ago, and he does not want it any other way.

Kizár

"It hurts me because I know it hurts you." Kizár says softly. "I always was the one who wanted to jump in and defend people from being hurt. My sisters, my brothers... even Toronatar... I am not changing that inclination now, even if I do agree that Thorin does mean well."

Kíli

He knows her family by mentions, always mentions, never names, but he gets the sense that they were as proud, stubborn, wonderful and finally fated to fall as Durin's House is. Sitting down on a rock, Kíli moves his mind-form to huddle closer with his sister. "I am sorry, little sister, I should not burden you. But... I wish, at least those dreams would stop. Though... no, they must not stop, maybe I can learn something in them." He bites his lip, realizing he just let the other reason for his black mood slip. The one that has nothing to do with Thorin chastising him unfairly for the umpteenth time.

Kizár

"Dreams...?" Kizár has been aware that Kíli has been having some strong dreams outside the ones she conjures, that unless specifically invited, she tends to leave them be.

Kíli

Those dreams... Kíli had a strong urge to keep them secret, to hide them away in some dark corner, to not let them out. "They began a few weeks ago, strong dreams, strange ones too. Standing under a dark sky, in a wild valley... strange places in the deeps. I tried to suppress, ignore those dreams. But then... a few nights ago, I was dreaming again. I stood on a sharp ledge above a vale, there were a few others hiding in the rocks with spears and crossbows. I was angry... so very angry, because what was happening was someone else's fault. My brother had caused it, and now a dragon was headed for us..." Kíli sighs, shaking his head. "I did want to push that dream away, it scares me... but maybe, maybe there is something in there, something that can help us?"

Kizár

"It sounds... something like you are seeing either the future... or even the past..." Kizár herself has occasionally had her share of odd dreams, ones of things that have never happened. "Or visions of other lives..." She murmurs a bit softer, thinking of those dreams of hers. "Would you let me share these dreams? Maybe with my viewpoint I can understand something of them you cannot quite see yet. Every type of vision has their own tone, Irmo sings differently for past, present and future."

Kíli

Kíli feels a blush creep into his cheeks. Past lives...how unlikely is that? But Kizár is wiser, and much older than he is, and maybe she can see something he cannot. "I.. I do not know why I am so... afraid about these dreams, Stone-Sister." He says softly, they scare him... a part of him wants to bury them, to forget he ever did dream. "But you are right, maybe you can see, what I cannot."

Kizár

"I can only guess at it, but whatever they are, I will be here to help you through them, and try decipher them." Kizár Hugs him again. She cannot help wonder if there is a reason why these dreams are coming up now. This quest has a great deal of potential to change many things in Middle Earth right now; the fortunes of the dwarves, the fortunes of those who live near the Mountain. She would not presume to know the the intentions of the Valar, but she does believe they are somehow influencing this, even beyond Gandalf's manipulations.

Kíli

"I am so glad you are here." Kíli says in a hush. He knows he could not share these dreams with Fíli or Thorin...

Steps behind them startle him and he sees Dwalin slip through the bushes. The mighty warrior gently touches his shoulder. "You alright, laddie?" he asks.

"I... I am alright, Dwalin, I just needed some time..." Kíli replies, feeling a bit embarrassed that Dwalin felt the need to come after him.

The broad-shouldered dwarf nodded. "Your sister might be the best company in such moments." he says with a wink. "Especially when your Uncle is as cranky as a cat at full moon."

Now Kíli is truly surprised, he has rarely heard Dwalin criticize Thorin. "He is just tense, we all are." he tries to defend Thorin, it is a reflex he cannot curb.

Dwalin heave s a sigh. "Laddie, Thorin is my King, he is also my friend... and neither of that changes that he can be a stubborn mule when it comes to family."

Kizár

That comment prompts an amused laugh, and Kizár belatedly opens up her range so Dwalin can hear her as well. "Almost as stubborn as the Great Smith himself in some ways." She might have used her earlier likeness to her father, but she knows Dwalin's opinion of Elves is only a little less distrustful than Thorin's, and comparisons to Mahal are never unoffensive, even when meant in as wry humour as Kizár speaks.

Kíli

Dwalin is a little startled when he sees Kíli's sister appear out of nothingness, again snuggled closely with her brother. It is something that will always tug at his old heart, they remind him too much of two other children from Durin's House. "A truer word was never said, lassie." he says, and there is warmth in his voice, he is glad Kíli has his sister. He cannot help the things that make Thorin jump at him so sternly at times.

Kizár

Kizár smiles and looks at Kíli. "Maybe right now we all need some sleep..." The thought of the dreams Kíli spoke of is at the forefront of her mind, but she does not mention it, leaving the right to decide when Dwalin is told about that to Kíli.

Kíli

Kíli can feel her nudge, but even if he wanted to... he suddenly feels shy to tell Dwalin of the dreams. Like there is something inside him afraid of anyone, any dwarrow knowing... or maybe he just fears it's ridiculous nonsense. "Kizár is right." he replies. "we all should get some rest. I doubt the next days will be easy."

Dwalin inclines his head and already turns to go back to camp, without any reminder for Kíli to follow soon. He trusts Kíli, and his sister will do that.

Kíli rises slowly, embracing Kizár's light-form for a last time. "Let's go back... I have missed you in my dreams."
