HERE GOES:

Hey guys!

Okay! So here i am with another important Song Shop update. If i can ask you not to skim this email, and that would be a awesome. A lot of people have been letting me know they’ve been getting their songs and that they’re very moved by them. I cannot affirm enough how freakin’ awesome that is, so thank you and please do so when you get your song. It always makes my day/night. Others have been expressing how excited they are to get their song; thank you so so so much for your patience so far. It is invaluable and essential to Song Shop being a thing.

More importantly, I wanted to address something and am slightly nervous to do so. Yes, even i get super neurotic and nervous about stuff and this is one of those moments for me. Honestly.

———————————————————

As you guys know, I injured my hand a month ago- The grisly details are that one of my beloved dogs bit my finger really badly (sad, right?) during a dog-fight so we had to give our dog Mary Jane (the one that bit me) to my wife’s parents and then in turn give their utterly innocent dog June to an awesome SA fan. Long story short, I was out of commission for almost a month, during which I would normally spread out finishing the songs so I can take an appropriate amount of time (relatively speaking). Being able to spread it out really far is vital for me, because, cad you can imagine, this is not the easiest thing in the world to write so many songs as incredibly, incredibly rewarding as it may be.

Having to wait to write the songs and having to make you guys wait utterly stressed me out so once my finger got better, I dove back into Song Shop, resolved to get them all done before our Summer tour and let you guys know that was the timeline I had envisioned.

I should mention as an aside that I’ve developed new ways of writing in order to make these songs better each time, and often I find myself losing myself and losing track of time during recording one, which is both good and bad because I refuse to just poop them out and have them not be good, but they also have become even more intense for me to perform and write.

As I went on this hell-bound-ish OCD quest to get these songs all done, things have continued to come at me. All amazing, exciting stuff (we shot a video which took a week though I still continued to record the songs during this time, comics deadlines aplenty, promo/interviews/meetings for the record, and just being a dad) but stuff that has made it pretty hard on me to have to do so many songs a day despite my continuously doing so anyway and making sure each song is still special. The month leading up to a record coming out is historically rough on anyone in my position.

As of now I’ve continued to do Song Shop hours and hours every day, trying to get them done before tour out of fear of letting everyone down but historically, I have the coolest fans ever, so I figured I’d rather take a chance and be candid rather than drive myself nuts, though I’m still super apprehensive to do write this note.

I still have a very good chunk of time before tour, during which I fully intend to do as many songs as possible. I will still get done literally hundreds before I leave on tour, and there really won’t be many left (not an exaggeration or i wouldn’t even ask), but if I’m going to make the songs as great as I truly want them to be, the ideal situation for me would be having some time to write at least some of them over the course of tour. It would mean the world to me if anyone who’s willing to wait over the would help me out. If not, I get it.

I understand Song Shop takes a long time, whether it’s the nature of the thing or not. Though the songs can take between days, a month or even up to nine months to receive (because there are literally hundreds of them, and this is how it’s been for the past 6 years of doing this) we’re still in the normal timeframe, but I understand I told you guys I’d get ‘em done before tour, and i don’t take my word lightly. So I came up with a solution. I think it’s fair and I can only hope you guys understand how much I care about this project and my fans.

If anyone has a wedding or a proposal or a birthday coming up and really needs their song before our first show on the 13th, please please email me immediately at youboughtarecord@gmail.com and I’ll make sure to get yours done BEFORE TOUR. I even extend the offer to anyone who’s really, honestly losing their mind waiting. It’s fine. Go for it. The last thing i want is to let anyone down and i’ve completed thousands and thousands of these songs over time, so it’s totally okay and i get it.

However if even less than half of those who haven’t gotten their songs are willing to wait those last few weeks, I can promise that EVERYONE’S songs will be markedly better. That is my main motivation. That and the fact that I stand the idea of letting my fans down. It literally gives me anxiety attacks as my wife can attest. The fact that we’re still within the normal timeframe doesn’t ease my mind, so I look forward to any encouragement you send my way, and I am excited to keep working on the songs up to tour and over the course of the shows until there’s not one left. Then it’s on to the phone calls which, though also take some time to do, are easier to pull off because they just require me shooting the shit with you.

I can only hope this is alright with y’all and simply cannot thank you guys enough for supporting me and this project and for your kind words about our new music. I promise to keep doing this as long as I’m able to and I’ve never once taken it for granted.

XO
Max
