Guys, there's no "gotcha" on the #DoctorWho vibe in the new SILVER SURFER book. We've actually mentioned it. A lot. :-)

I spent my teen years growing up in the UK, and am a proud, unabashed, out-in-the-open fan of British Sci-Fi. I make no bones about it. K-9 is my favorite robot. Even more than R2-D2. *Gasp* I know, right?

If you're reading the new Surfer book, you'll totally see the influences of Doctor Who (both New and Classic), Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Red Dwarf, and-- heck-- even Blake's 7 and Sapphire & Steel-- to name a few. I'm not going to shy away from that, because that's the sandbox I want to play in.

That said, I love Norrin Radd! The first Marvel Comics I ever read were my cousin's copies of FF #48-#50, The Galactus Trilogy. I'm a huge Silver Surfer fan and have tremendous affection for the character. That will come first and foremost in this book.

In the same way that Daredevil isn't about film noir & ninjas-- even though it had a great, long run hitting that sweet spot. But now Waid & Samnee are mining other aspects of Matt Murdock's history/character to tell NEW stories out of that comfort zone where DD had been snugly wedged in for some time.
It's my goal to tell Surfer stories that hit a new feel as well-- while staying true to everything that makes the Surfer awesome!
