#BuckeyeNation, ESPN #NFLDraft guru Mel Kiper's evaluation on #OhioState #Buckeyes top 4 in the draft:
Mel Kiper Jr., ESPN’s long-running NFL draft guru, was asked by me this afternoon on a teleconference to give his assessment of what are considered to be Ohio State’s top four prospects headed into the 2014 draft in a couple of weeks:
BRADLEY ROBY, cornerback:
“Roby I’ve said all along … is a great talent, I mean phenomenal talent. A couple years ago I thought he might be a top 15 pick; he may well be in the top 25-32. He may be a solid first-rounder, which I think he is. I just think you saw inconsistency in terms of tackling – good run support, but tackling in the open field, inconsistent; coverage, inconsistent.
“He puts it all together, could be a heck of a player, but right now I think he’s a little overrated.”
CARLOS HYDE, running back:
“I love as a player. He’ll block. He’ll catch. He’ll run hard. He’s physical. He could have a rookie year like Eddie Lacy did in Green Bay (last season) I believe.”
He sees Hyde as a “mid- to late-second round (pick). I think he’ll be the first running back taken.”
RYAN SHAZIER, linebacker:
“I like, because he’s a runaround guy. He doesn’t always want to take on (blockers), but he can sift through traffic, very instinctive.
“He gives you plenty of versatility. He could be a Will (weakside LB), he could be a 3-4 inside linebacker. I think he’s a borderline first round, early second (pick).”
JACK MEWHORT, offensive lineman:
“As a right tackle I think he has a chance to be a starter. You could kick him inside to the center. He has a background in high school as a center. That’s a possibility as well.
“I think he is a late-two, early-three (draft pick).”
