[TRANS] 2NE1 on Nylon Magazine Interview - PART 1

Translated from: http://gall.dcinside.com/board/view/?id=2NE1&no=375404&page=1

- The first part will not be translated because it is not an interview; it is just a brief introduction. I will only translate the interview for 2NE1 members -

1) Q: Even though you met the editor of <Nylon> Marvin for the first time, you guys looked like old friends who have met and known him for a long time.

CL: Strangely, it feels like I have known Marvin for a long time. He knows my character really well. When we had the photo shoot, we did not shoot by focusing on only one image (concept) but instead we made new things out in a free way and also, we were able to find other new things during the process of the making. That really connected to me really well.

Dara: At first, it was difficult to read Marvin's emotions because of his absence of expressions. I wasn't sure if the pose I made appealed to him or not. During photo shoots with the local staff, there are usually many directions compared to this. However, compared to this, Marvin had that odd power that brought good things out without talking a lot.

Minzy: Marvin was quiet but we had a strong photo shoot.

Bom: I really liked how he respected what the members of 2NE1 wanted to do. When I had a solo photo shoot on bed, I told him that we should take shots as I lie down because I was kind of tired. Marvin was cool and just answered "Good (that's fine)."

2) Q: 2NE1 seems be a musician group who goes over the uniqueness and does a good job in pointing out each member's strength. However, since you guys have chosen the other route that is different from the other girl groups, didn't you go through many hardships?

CL: I think the 2 years hiatus before our 2nd full album came out were the time that we had to go through tests. I feel like we have crossed over a large mountain (after the 2nd full album release). It feels new, personally to me, because it has been 4 years since our first full album release. I feel like being busy nowadays makes me feel good.

Dara: We were more of worried about the (difference in the) standard of our views and the general public's views. What we often used to hear was "Such a unique group", but we still always hear it even when we try out cute as well as strong image stylings. Because of that, we (the members) even said," We are mixed (heterogeneous) group instead of a girl group". /laughs/

Minzy: The lifestyle of a celebrity is basically tiring. If we were normal people, there would be many things we would not be able to experience. Therefore, I do not think that I had to go through many hardships because of the team color of 2NE1.

Bom: If I say my goal is to go for 100, I am still at 50 so we have not even go through hardships. There are still many things that we want to show.

3)Q: What is 2NE1's current position?

Minzy: There are people who call us junior (middle-aged) musicians, but we just released our 2nd full album. I think it is too early to judge.

CL: To be honest we do not have any selfishness for positions. Personally, I think it is because our big fantasy on music (we focus on music more). There is a saying that you will want to try out something new when you do not know anything. If we know too many things, I think we would be too scared to even challenge ourselves.

Dara: There is a saying in the industry that it is difficult for a band to go (or maintain) for more than 5 years. Not so long after we heard that, we released the song <Missing You>. During that time, I thought that this could really be the last time.
"The love of my young days is ending like this
You have to be happy
Even if a long time passes by, we’ll still remember each other
Those times when there was still “us” (cr Kpop Lyrics) "
When I saw the lyrics, I even misunderstood what if Teddy wrote us a farewell song. As we feel this emotion once and went over a mountain, it feels better (fresh). So anyways, it's a new start again.

Bom: My dream is to be a legendary musician, such as Mr. Cho Yong Pil. It could be funny, but as a musician I think once we brought up the sword, we need to run until the end.

4) Q: 2NE1 already experienced the peak once, and I feel like you guys are crossing the golden age with the maturity (earned from the past experience)

Dara: I think it is because we decided to try out new before this album promotion. Since CL composed the songs, it was the team's turning point.

Bom: I think it is because the members have a variety of sides. Don't you think 2NE1 came until here because we are the good combos?

5) Q: Don't you feel impressed (or beyond the circumstances) living as 2NE1?

Bom: During our debut times, we were so beyond the circumstances. The way I behaved and the way I thought was very different. I did not even know how to deal with people's responses. However now, I think promotions are such fun things.

Minzy: We rather feel like we need to keep showing the new sides to the public.

6) What is 'the most 2NE1-like'?
Minzy: Personally I feel like myself the most when I dance, and this fuses well with 2NE1 well.

Bom: The most "Park Bom like" is 2NE1's form. There are times when I am upset because people judge me only with appearances. I think there are only a few people who knows that I have great passion in singing.

Dara: Isn't the characters of the 4 members and the difference in their colors the 'most 2NE1-like'?

CL: There are times when I feel like 'Oh so this is how people think about 2NE1', but there is no actual image that serves as a rule for us. I hope we are a team who is not only limited to a certain barrier.

7) Q: What is 2NE1's best talent?

CL: Day-dreaming. I have a lot of imaginations. People say that those who day-dream a lot are creative, but there are times when it is painful because of having too much thoughts.

Minzy: Since I love pop arts, it is my dream to create masterpieces such as those of Andy Warhol. Sometimes I give my drawings as gifts to others.

Bom: Being honest. We are showing the reality of our nature to the public instead of fake images.

Dara: I do not have a one exact talent but I am good in doing a lot of things. There were times when the absence of talent of me became a complex. When each members have an exact talent in rapping, choreography, vocals, etc, I don't know what I should boast. If I had to say a talent within 2NE1 members, should I say my bright personality /laughs/?

8) Q: What is a noun that best fits each of you?

Bom: Naiveness. But as I lived out the society, I realized that being naive is not always good /laughs/.

Dara: Krung Krung. It is not a word that has a meaning of specialty, but when I lived in the Philippines, my friends made me this nickname by calling me special and unique, and that I seem to be crazy in (or about) a subject. I think it is sufficient to describe me.

Minzy: Genuineness. Genuineness as in not being a hypocrite and not shaking (crumbling) easily to something.

CL: I think my name is a noun that can describe myself. Mine consists of Color Chae(彩), Giraffe Rin(麟). It means a unicorn who has a variety of colors, and just like this, it is actually me myself who prefers a variety of things.

9) Q: When does your pride increase as a musician?
Minzy: It is of course when we are on stage. I go on stage with a determination of "Everyone's busted!"

CL: I just enjoy music and love singing; I do not have this thing that 'My genre of music should be like this!' As a singer and a performer, I am concerned of how to digest 2NE1's songs. I don't live like a person who says 'I am a person like this!'

10) Q: Is there any time when you feel 'my time has come'?
Dara: When singing 'Good to You'. I was worried that my soft sound would give harm to 2NE1's promotion, but during 'Good to You' I sang the chorus. The chorus is usually for people who sing well and has a powerful vocal right? I am singing that with my soft (weak) voice. I cannot forget the amusement of that time. /laughs/

Bom: When I don't talk a lot, people view me as a cold person. That's why I feel thankful for being a part of a variety show (Roommate). Finally I have something to prove it.
