Jigawa NSCDC sets up special squad on fuel diversion

To curtail the diversion of petroleum products meant for Jigawa, the state command of the Nigeria Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has set up a special squad to checkmate the menace of black marketers at the road sides.

Inaugurating the squad, the state Commandant of the Corps, Dr. Muhammad Gidado, said setting up the squad became absolutely necessary to reduce the hardship of the people as a result of the activities of the economic saboteurs.

He recalled that last week at Ringim – Kano Road, nine people perished and house destroyed by the inferno when commercial buses rammed into one another and inflamed jerry cans loaded with petroleum at the road side, which later consumed the occupants.

‘We must not close our eyes while people’s lives and property are at risk because of activities of some unscrupulous elements who want to enrich themselves over night. We are going to institute a legal action against them without any delay,” he said.
Also, the commandant held a meeting with petroleum tanker drivers association in his office as part of steps taken to curtail diversion of the petroleum products meant for Jigawa State.

The state chapter of the association and his secretary, Abdulsalam Mohammed, Gidado Mohammed; and members from Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states were in attendance.

The commandant said. He would apprehend anyone associated with the scarcity of fuel in jIgawa State.

They assured him of their total support in cushioning the effect of the scarcity on the people of the state by ensuring that all products allocated to the state reach their official destinations.
